A while back there was a thread pertaining to lace buttons which contained a link to an online tutorial and a reference to 50 Heirloom Buttons to Make. I followed the link and have the book but neither has instructions for making a bird's eye button which is the type I want to duplicate.

Amazon UK have four copies of the book mentioned below at an exorbitant prices ranging from GBP 65.99 (around 128 US dollars) to 83.52 all from the USA. The only reason for looking at it on Amazon is that you can look inside at the first few pages. It's certainly not worth looking to buy at

We can tell a lot from buttons - our mother's 'button jars' are a gold mine of information if you know what to look for. The only lace buttons that come to my mind are the needlewoven covered buttons called Dorset buttons. There is a picture here:
