Hi, Devon and fellow listmembers
I just tuned into this thread. I joined Arachne sometime during its first
year. I remember when someone downloaded the membership list from 'the major',
and found we had reached a membership of 400! Most impressive, at the time.

Terrible sorry Avital. In a hurry, friend is ill. Promise to do better next

I remember when I first discovered Arachne, exploring "lace" through an
internet searcher as Yahoo, it was back in 2000.
I miss those years of my first steps in lacemaking and the excitement of
contacting lacemakers of all over the world in a group that took the
bobbin lace from a formal point
Sorry!!! I'm on my phone and forgot to trim that last post. Oh no! Here

David, since you are the only person I have ever known to play Carnegie Hall,
please provide details! Some Arachneans may want tickets. Be sure to put in
some lace content so it's legal. LOL. Sincerely, Susan Hottle USA

I'm not sure what to say. The whole thing comes from Jeri Ames, not me, but
the link works for me. Try copying the entire URL and pasting it into your

Well, I have been with Arachne since the 1st year! Not sure which month because
it was a painful year (fell off a ladder 25 feet to a cement floor in Dec 1995)
I discovered bobbin lacemaking as an activity early in 1996 and was searching
for a resource. Ran into Arachne, probably pretty close

HI,
I have no idea when I joined or how I joined, but I do know this that my
early effort to study bobbins were a very collegiate approach with Arachne
members. I have always remembered your willing help and contributions.
There is no doubt as to the value I put on my membership of this
I joined Arachne in late 1995 and made lots of friends throughout the world.
I even visited their homes in Canada, Denmark, New Zealand and the UK.  It
is nice to put faces to names and is something we always do at our Arachne get
togethers at the IOLI convention. Â I believe the first one was
As usual, I sent a lot of gmail users bcc's this morning in connection with
the wonderful weaving story from The New York Times. Â The main message,
addressed to lace@arachne.com , failed to be delivered.  Sent the rejection
notice to Avital. Â Am sure she is as frustrated as I am.

I found Arachne just after it's first anniversary so I'm not quite a charter
member but it was soon after I started making lace.
The discussions gave me lots of good information and helped my lacemaking.
Then the group decided they wanted a conference so Arachne 98 was born. Thanks
to Pat
I whole heartedly agree with everything Alice has said about Arachne,
especially Liz and Avital. I have made many friends around the globe
through this list as my husband makes aluminium bobbins though not on
such a large scale as he did before.
I was introduced to Arachne (after our son, who
G'day Karen,
I still have your most beautiful solid silver tatting shuttle which I'll
treasure for life. I reckon I got that in 1996 and believe it was the first
one you'd sold outside the USA.
Nice to know you're still here too.

Dear Friends,
I just can't say how thrilled I am that next January after some 23 years I
shall finally be meeting a wonderful lace making friend for the first time.
Yes it's Stormy Lee!!!
I'm sure many of you will remember her too. Stormy and I have become great
friends over the years but have

The background is Mechlin, but the Mechlin ground is widely spaced, like a

I was at an Arachne gathering at the Salt Lake City IOLI Convention and I
realized that many of the younger members were computer gamers and some of
the older members seem to have been part of the Dungeons and Dragons crowd. I
found myself wondering if the founding of Arachne had occurred because
(No ranting/ravving/crying over the loss of the 'old Arachne' in this post!)
I got involved with Arachne in the mid 90's, pretty close to it's arrival on
the internet and it has been a vital part of my life for all these decades.Â

I’m really enjoying reading everyone’s lace origin and Arachne stories! Thank
you all for sharing.
3000 members on Arachne - wow, that’s impressive! I’m wondering, Avital, if you
might be able to give us an updated count? I’m curious too!
Best,
Elena
