Re: [lace] Bookmark exchange,

2017-08-10 Thread jviking
Hi All, My partner in 2000 or 2001 sent me a scan of a beautiful bookmark
and she mailed the real thing. Sadly the real one never arrived and I
didn't feel she should have to make another so I only got the scan.

After 9/11 there was an anthrax-in-the-mail scare and I hoped they would
find it when they searched the US post offices but no such luck.

Considering how many pieces of lace have made it through the mail system
losing a few is not surprising. I remember Sulochona in India telling me
to wrap anything in plain brown paper with no fancy stamps so not one
would be tempted to steal the package. Everything I sent her got there!

Happy lacing! Jane in Vermont, USA where it's lovely and green outside!

Re: [lace] bookmark exchange

2016-05-19 Thread sueat
You are very welcome Beth, I really did enjoy the process this time. I
spent some time leafing through many patterns and allowed my own likes to
decide what to make for you. Making Lace is about indulging ourselves in
creating something we think will look pretty and the other person will enjoy
and with more time to achieve it all I didn't feel under too much pressure
which I do sometimes.
I hope you will enjoy seeing it marking your place in a reading book, is you
get enough time to sit and read, or to keep the page of a pattern you want
to come back to or a technique you find yourself having to revisit on
occasion. My exchange gift to me from last year greets me frequently
because of where it keeps a page in my diary, I can open a number of books
and find a bookmark tucked inside keeping a good page marked for the future.

Hi everyone

I received my bookmark from Sue T today - a very pretty, delicate
torchon pattern in white thread mounted on a red background.

I've not finished the bookmark I'm making for the exchange yet, so I'd
better make the most of the wet weekend the forecasters are promising us...

Re: [lace] Bookmark Exchange 2016

2016-05-09 Thread sueat
I have to say that I have enjoyed this bookmark exchange more than some in
other years, for the simple reason that the time span this year has allowed
me to handle a couple of major issues which have occurred since it was
announced, and even reject some lace ideas and choose others without feeling
stressed. I love to send lace I am happy with as a gift to someone, not to
just send something out which I am less than content with and I am happy to
say that time has allowed that in a more relaxed way and not in sheer panic
that I might miss the deadline.
So thank you Lin for organising it in this way and hope it happens in a
similar way in the future and that the others partaking are also feeling as
contented with this arrangement. I am looking forward to seeing all the
different types of ideas that come out with each new exchange and wonder why
I didn't think of that, or marvel at the different types and look in lace.
Thank you to Jenny in advance as I know you always make a great job of
displaying our lace and that has all reminded me to make sure I scan or
photograph my completed pieces, lol.

Keep on enjoying your lace making.

We are down to the last 4 weeks of the bookmark exchange. If you are
saying "I should have" or "Bummer, I wish I had", send me your snail mail
address (linhud...@gmail.com) and join in the fun. There is still plenty
of time to make a bookmark and mail it off to one who will most assuredly
love to receive it. The exchange is meant to inspire and to enjoy and
share pleasure and inspiration. It is a way to plan, work and gift to
another like-minded planner, creator and giver. I eagerly await hearing
from you members of a wonderful group.

I am so pleased to announce that Jenny has wonderfully set up an awesome
web site that is a tool as well as the panorama of all the lovely lace
presentations.  I think she went an extra mile this time and does all of us
proud to have her as a member of Arachne and be so supportive.  So as she
aptly states sit back, relax and enjoy.  I am sure all of us will whether
or not we participated.  I hope it encourages all to participate next year.

Dear Jenny and Lin,

A wonderful collaboration - the organization, publicity and site where we
can view the laces all exceed expectations.

Of particular interest was the covers of books in which participants found
their patterns. It is a nice way to show contents of the books, for
those who might be thinking of buying one. And, how appropriate to show
bookmarks with books, since they do travel together in our minds.

So much variety - bobbin, crochet, needlelace, netting, tatting. Thanks
to all who participated.

Re: [lace] Bookmark exchange

2015-07-01 Thread J Reardon
In today's mail I received a lovely bookmark from Lorri Ferguson in Washington
state. The lace, a scalloped edging is beautifully done and mounted on a fabric
ribbon. I'd not seen that before and just love it. It sturdies it up and makes
It practically usable as a bookmark. Also included was some history about where
the pattern came from, which I really appreciate. It being Scottish is so
fitting, as I have a bit 'o the Scots in me.

Thanks, Lorri
