I think shorewall allows to log packets coming to various ports. Can we allow for a rule to be defined dynamically blocking the source IP of the packet in case the port being opened/ queried is not allowed by the host owner. This is what portsentry does. Portsentry creates a iptables/ ipchains

Looks like the right way to set an alternat port for thttpd. Have you checked to see if thttpd is listening on the desired port (use netstat -ln)? Have you tried using the -p command line option instead of the port config file setting? Also, what's with the host=192.168.0.129 business? IIRC,
