Hi If this has been addressed before I apologize for repeating this. Got a new computer with windows 7. Downloaded Legacy 7.5 Later on will do a backup to transfer to my new computer. Question: Old computer has Legacy ver 6. Will this be a problem when I do a restore on new computer with ver 7?

Thank you all for the advice. I like the idea of adding them based upon how strong the “possibility” of a connection may be. For example I’m currently researching surname Hewitt. There seem to be s many, however I’m focusing on West Virginia which seems to narrow it down quite a bit. From:

Diane, No, it will not cause a problem. However during the restore process at some stage you will be asked if it is OK to change your file structure and advised that the process is not reversible. I would recommend making a separate back up of your .fdb (or your .zip) file so that in the

You will get differing opinions on this. Some people only research/add their direct line ancestors. Some people do direct line plus connected collateral lines, some do all of the right surnames in the area whether proven connected or not, and some do everyone within a geographical location.

I have worked on my family tree for about 30 years now, on different software products until I finally found Legacy - and yes, I'm a happy Legacy user. I started out doing this as a way to keep track of which kid belonged to which cousin and who that cousin married and when so and so died...

NO, This is where DNA really pays off. There are several very large researched surname groups out there that I would like to find a proven connection. BUT, with having done DNA testing, I have found that there is no way I will be connected to some of these groups. So it is a waste of my time

Terry, You're nowhere close to having too many individuals in the Family File. I've seen Family Files with hundreds of thousands of individuials, even one with over 1 million! The only limitation is the actual file size which should be no bigger than about 1.5 GB to avoid problems. I would not
