Hi
If this has been addressed before I apologize for repeating this.
Got a new computer with windows 7. Downloaded Legacy 7.5
Later on will do a backup to transfer to my new computer.
Question:
Old computer has Legacy ver 6.
Will this be a problem when I do a restore on new computer with
ver 7?
Thank you all for the advice. I like the idea of adding them based upon how
strong the “possibility” of a connection may be. For example I’m currently
researching surname Hewitt. There seem to be s many, however I’m focusing
on West Virginia which seems to narrow it down quite a bit.

Diane,
No, it will not cause a problem. However during the restore process at some
stage you will be asked if it is OK to change your file structure and
advised that the process is not reversible. I would recommend making a
separate back up of your .fdb (or your .zip) file so that in the
You will get differing opinions on this. Some people only research/add their
direct line ancestors. Some people do direct line plus connected collateral
lines, some do all of the right surnames in the area whether proven connected
or not, and some do everyone within a geographical location.
Geoff was the one that put ours together. We had it at BYU. He would
have a different topic each time, then a Q/A afterward. Since he moved,
it is still going but not as well attended and not at BYU anymore.

I have worked on my family tree for about 30 years now, on different

I don’t know where in Georgia you are, but if you are in North Georgia near the
North Carolina line, we have a user’s group that meets once a month at the Moss

NO, This is where DNA really pays off. There are several very large researched
surname groups out there that I would like to find a proven connection. BUT,
with having done DNA testing, I have found that there is no way I will be
connected to some of these groups. So it is a waste of my time

Marli,
The possibility of printing pictures varies from report to report, as you have

Usually you can only print one picture for each option, and this is

Nita,
I doubt if there is a piece of software on the market which does not have a

It is unfortunate that a recent update was released before it was ready, but

Marg,
An Island is formed by having at least one individual who is not linked in any
way to someone in your main tree. If there are, say, three people linked

Betty,
FamilySearch has decided to use United States as their 'standard' because
of the potential 'confusion' using just the initials, however unlikely we
may think that is. Nobody is 'required' to use FS standards but it tends
to be useful to adopt certain standards in the genealogical community

USA can just as easily mean the old Union of South Africa. In fact I
think there are three or four problematic permutations of it when
