My home-town weekly newspaper generally runs 8 to 12 obits a

them in the 1962-1990 era are found
I seem to be a bit ahead of the curve with my question regarding

Its not as buried as I though as the address icon (the house) is

Wonderful! Thanx.

A few years back there was discussion of the pros and cons of storing digital
files as jpg, PDF and other formats. One of the drawbacks of jpg is losing
data with repeated edits and saves. PDF files cannot currently be viewed
within Legacy. Tif has been recommended as the best way to store
Emily,
Any discussion on this should be related to how the graphic files and PDF
files are handled in Legacy.
If you want to include the pictures in reports, then they need to be in a
graphic format.
PDF files can't be included in reports and web pages and there's no change
to that in v8.
Thanks, Sherry. I am specifically interested in which formats work best with
Legacy now and in the future.

I certainly understand that PDF files can't be printed within a report, but
including them in a web page should be totally different, I'm certainly sorry
to hear that hasn't been changed in version 8.

All file types can be linked in the Picture Gallery. However, only the
Preferred Picture can be used in reports and web pages - and that would be
a file with a graphic file extension. You can choose between all Preferred,
only tagged Preferred or only
You can do that manually with a little HTML editing.

I seem to have 23 trees in the db with 2 or more people each.
The HELP file says I can tag them. But, clearly, I'm having

it doesn't ask me HOW to tag them, so when I move to the

Jay, Syble, et al,
We are talking about horses for courses here. Yes, one can have a picture in
the PDF file form but that is not the primary purpose of a PDF, which is
primarily designed for reports and similar. A browser will open a PDF not in
the browser page but in a separate PDF viewer
If that's the option you have set! FireFox by default opens it in a new
browser window I had to change the setting to open it in FoxIt.
I wholeheartedly agree that images should be in graphic files and documents
should be in DOC or PDF format.

Cheryl,
When you are in the Tree Finder Window you will find a Tag: # window in the
lower right next to the Tag All the individuals in the List button. When
you click any of those buttons it will use the Tag number shown in that
window. If you want each tree to be a different number then choose it

Hi all,
Have just been working on my family file and now want to close down,
however it won't let me do it.
I am in the Family View with no other windows open within Legacy (7.5 latest

You must enter a name in order to save an individual.
I never use pdf for photos, mine are all jpg, so that's not an issue for me.
I have military files etc. that I'd like to put into pdf format and have the
option on that person's Legacy webpage to click on for someone that is
interested, If I add the individual jpgs of each item, it makes

Jean,
As the Wyllo family and children are not descendants of Guy I would not expect
them to appear in a Descendants Report for him. This is possibly a matter of
language but I cannot think what you mean by “all that information has been
entered under the Additional Spouse information.”.
On the face this sounds really good.
But concerning the auto-sorting: I sometimes like to sort my events by
the event type first, then by date. For example, I'll put all of the
EDUCATION ones together, and all of the RESIDENCE ones together, etc.
This can help me to find gaps in information.
Thanks. I am also coming to the conclusion that text should be scanned to pdf
and photos to tif for long term storage and jpg for routine use. Looking
forward to finding out about changes in how Legacy handles images. IMHO Legacy
was designed assuming that image files would be photographs

If you're just looking for counts, this is how I do it.

2) Highlight the common ancestor like a great grandfather
3) ToolsSet Relationships to have Legacy compute his connections
4) Set tag1 for all of his descendants
