I have had Legacy installed on my computer but had to have a new drive

then said that the Legacy file it had had been made using a previous version
and did I still want to install it (Im sorry but I can't remember the
Stanley,
The install/uninstall issues that you are having are not Legacy problems. The
problems are related to your system set up. If there was an issue with the
Legacy installer, there would be many more reports of problems both on the list
and directly to Legacy support. That does not

What is the name of your backed up file?
For example mine is Falzini-1. I would click the orb in the bottom left of my
computer and type in the name of my file and search for it this way.
Perhaps you can try this method and see if you can locate it.
If not perhaps others here will give other
This is a problem common to many of us, whatever the source. So I'll
try to be helpful and not just suggest that it is somehow your fault, Stanley.
Don't try any brute force uninstalls. You'll only leave junk in your registry.
You need that install.log, so install Legacy 8
Stanley,
I guess in one person's mind I need to apologize for trying to point you in the
direction of looking at your system set up for your install/uninstall issues
instead of having you think the problem is directly related to Legacy software.
Not sure how it was interpreted that I was

Thanks for some of your suggestions.
Here is what worked for me, in case anyone else might need a similar
remedy. Apparently, my mistake was using Control Panel to remove
Legacy8, on two different machines that failed (Win7 Win8). To
recover, go to \Program Files (x86)\Legacy8\Backup and copy
There appears to be no rhyme nor reason. It is simply adding a new Source
and sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.
Today, I opened the file and the first thing I did was add a new source and
it happened.
Step 1: I opened the file and clicked, My Toolbar Master Lists Source
Add.
Have you looked for a Henry Williams etc in the next census from when you
have the daughters listed? My guess is you will find at least one or two of
those men with wives of the names you are looking for - comparing birth
years on the wives may help. If you do find them you can start looking for
Well that's the plan. It's just the before-you-get-to-that-point problem.
Until I find out, how do you handle it?
It's not a 'how do you research it' question, but what do you do BEFORE you

To be quite honest with that situation, I usually just add a note to each
of the three girls saying they may be Smith, etc.and why. I do have
one family like this that has driven me nuts for a number of years and it
was 8 girls. I now have them all whittled down to the last two so at least

A great programme - thank you. June
There is a program called Everything, a locally installed search engine that
catalogs all the files on your hard drive. You can get it at:

It is totally free and I have been using it for quite a long time with NO

years to find my greatgrandmothers sisters, I did have towns for them

Between the censuses and Googling for online info I think you ought to be
able to nail down who married whom.

Also, if he left a will, that should match up the first and last names
