I have two machines: one for Daily use and one used on Travel.
I have a NAS installed at home with redundant hard drives.
The NAS can be accessed from the WEB (Double PASSWORD Protected).
The NAS retains the last edited version of the my data file.

Hi
I also just use the Legacy Cloud. When I got a 2nd laptop (for friends/
family tho still use it myself) I wanted Legacy on that too, so got a tip
off this group and now use their Cloud.
I do, however. also have my tree on Genes Reunited, and I have an external
hard drive backed up to this
I use the Legacy cloud for the data - no extra app needed; simple to use.
Backup on one computer; restore on the other.
I do date entry ONLY on the desktop; pictures are linked on the desktop;
all backed up to external drive and a flash drive too. I use the laptop to
carry around with me while

I live in a somewhat remote rural area where the broadband speed is
about 1.5 Mb/s, so I avoid doing anything via cloud. I simply transfer
.fdb files and appropriate media files via a USB memory stick. Quick and
easy. My backups are to an external hard disk.

Ian Macaulay,
The Legacy database itself - the .fdb file has a size limit of 2 GB so
you don't have a 7 GB .fdb file. You may well have 7 GB of Legacy
related files if you are including your Media files.

Those only connected by links to the data file. I think you may be
looking at the size of the data folder. If you have a lot of back ups
in it the folder could easily get to that size. the data file is the one

Sorry, I see what you folks are looking at now. I count the dbase photos
and documents as one file. They are not all Access but are linked as a
database. Legacy alone is less than a GB.

I must be doing something weird. Perhaps its just the photos and documents
that are taking the space.
I will have to take a look see.

Ronald, I would disagree. Ignoring a problem, or pretending that a
problem doesn't make you want to use a different solution, doesn't fix
the problem. If Dennis is expressing that this issue is bothersome
enough to make him consider using a different product, knowing that I am

I’ve always had to do a back-up/restore to move data between computers.

Under file properties you will find your Family File Information:
If you use Dropbox, set your family file folder to save to your Dropbox folder
– syncs every time as long as you only have Legacy open on one computer at a

I have been using this for years with no issues –

Dennis, please, change if you are unhappy with Legacy, but don’t waste your

I never do that. I take a backup daily of my files and they go on a NAS
drive.
I keep a dummy copy for show and tells, but never connect them to the main
files, So no on the fly updates.
I also do not understand how 700K names can result in 1 GB. I have less
than 100K folks and run at well over
I also use a USB drive, except that my _live_ .fdb and media files are on it.

I have spent thousands of hours (not sure I would want to know exactly how
many!) working on my database. I now have over 713,000 individuals in my
database, which is over 1GB in size. Frankly, I don't want to lose all that
time and work! So I use a cloud backup service (BackBlaze) as a backup.
Your ‘survey’ comes at an interesting time since I am currently considering
abandoning Lecacy (after many years) because of the difficulty of
accomplishing this sync.

What do you feel is the advantage of your choice vs another app?
