Make a php page with that calls phpinfo(). It'll show you what modules
are loaded.
Also, have a look through your Apache log files. It should explain why
it isn't loading properly.

That never worked on SuSE 2.2.16. There seems to be some sort of problem
with the PHP library. At one point I believe I compiled PHP4 from source,
and it worked, but I can't be sure of that now.
