Hello IBMVM and linux-390 listers and lurkers,

Hi,
Has the typescript environment been ported to zLinux (superset of
JavaScript that 'transpiles' to JavaScript)?
I have a SLES 12 SP1 system and got node.js and npm installed, but npm

Thanks.

Another issue I vaguely remember is the FTP home directory.
If the home directory when you ftp is something like /home/ftp/ and your
install directory is something like /sles/iso/, then the install files will
be looked for in /home/ftp/sles/iso/ where they may not be found.
Hope this helps.

Rick,
I found Ubuntu was able to convert an RPM to a DEB with the alien command -
example in "The zoom Cookbook".

We cannot SSH as root in our organization which is good for preserving

SSI, I just install Linux twice. If you plan to have a 4-member SSI or
multiple SSI clusters, you may consider setting up a 'golden admin Linux'
system that can be cloned or built in some fashion.

OK, y'all convinced me that always using a 1M buffer for vmcp is not the
best idea. I appreciate all the feedback.
Here's my first take at a bash function to retry a vmcp command with a few
boundary test cases:
# cat testvmcp
#!/bin/bash
function zVerbose
{
echo "$@"
}
#+---
ty hole, btw. Don't do that!

I'm going to stop here for now. I've learned a lot about Linux memory from
this thread (but that's easy when you don't know much to begin with :)).
I guess a question to the Linux developers in Germany would be:
If vmcp is called with a buffer of 1M and the last slab in /proc/buddyinfo
is 0, wou

of /proc/buddyinfo to see if it needs to be run.
Thanks all.

Let me answer my own question. Perhaps kludgy, but by adding 'tee' to
sudo, this technique works:
root@lab141:~ # visudo
root@lab141:~ # tail -1 /etc/sudoers
%zoom ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/tee
root@lab141:~ # su - mike

Nice, even easier. Thanks!
The next question is - can this ever be done by a non-root user? I tried
adding /bin/echo to /etc/sudoers, but still get an error:
mike@lab153:~ $
Tomas, Marcy,
Thanks. I copied and pasted cmmflush and it seems to work nicely:

Hello list,
I have a SLES 11 SP3 system that is leaking memory, but I don't know how or
where.
I find a script on the Internet that runs forever, adapt it somewhat, and
start logging some info to a temp file. Here's the script:
# cat memusage
#!/bin/bash
#
# track memory usage
#
outFile="/tmp/me
Mark,
Thanks for trying to recreate - again - it must have just been an anomaly

Just a hiccup I guess

Hello list,
I need a system that has dedicated volumes. I tried to install SLES on it,
but got an error. Here are the steps I took

machine:
DEDICATE 0100 18A2
DEDICATE 0101 18A3

Matt,
I'd recommend keeping both of them.
LNXMAINT is a CMS machine. It's main purpose is to have a R/W 192 disk that
becomes the R/O 191 disk for all Linux virtual machines. In an SSI it is a
USER as the disk can be shared among all members.
LNXADMIN is a Linux machine. Many systems management

That's good to know. Thanks Marcy, Rob.
I wonder if there is still time to get that into the next "Virtualization
Cookbook"?

Hello list,
I wrote a paper on submitting JCL from z/VM last year. I found the need to
do the same from Linux, and wrote a quick and dirty bash script. I thought
some people may find this useful, so I added a short description of it (and
the code) to the paper. If for some reason you may want to
Matt,
The Virtualization Cookbook has always recommended NFS as the install
protocol. So if you want to follow that as closely as possible, I'd
recommend z/OS NFS over Windows SFTP. I have never installed a zLinux from
a z/OS NFS server, but I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work.
You'd
