As before, US companies come with too much of an aftertaste to be in
consideration for email.
We discussed before the downsides of running your own email server. It's

Hi-ho,
As a general rule ISPs in NZ are much better than the bulk/cheap hosting
firms overseas but my advice stands for NZ as well.
If it's a *.nz domain you can go to the DNC and get it resolved, but if
it's on another TLD and there's an issue. Good luck.

On aside to what everyone here so far has said.
what we (as in being vodafone customers) could do is ring them up requesting a
new contract.
when the sales rep starts talking internet we say we'd like $100 off the cost
due to no email service being available and _how_ unavoidable annoying it is.

That probably applies to overseas, but to NZ as well? I
Hmm... some of you might know I spent about 5 years fighting

As you're on this list, I assume you have at least a passing interest in

My 2c...
Buy your own domain, pay for commercial email hosting with a provider
you feel you can trust.
Do not purchase the domain through the ISP who hosts the email, so when
you decide you don't like the ISP you can go elsewhere and easily take
your address(es) with you.
Agree totally with

Yes, I was notified to, along the lines of "we are a large multinational

Hey everyone,
I'm sure you've seen the news Vodafone is dropping their email service
so I'm in the market for another hosting solution and I'm curious about
what other people are using.
Having a quick rummage about the place and Lavabit, ProtonMail, Fastmail
seem like interesting
