Well is not a bug, it's more a protection in the GUI. You can do
anything with the console, but it doesn't mean it's a good idea :)

Generally, adding my PPA is quite dangerous :) I made many changes for
testing, sometimes really unstable :) When I have something stable, I
put it in the Lubuntu PPA instead (or in the Ubuntu repo directly).

The new pcmanfm2 seems really sensitive to incorrect config files. It
also crashed when "showing hidden" is enable.

Symlinks are also not implemented yet on pcmanfm2.

I have been testing this iso for a week now. I have added Julien Lavergne's
PPA. Everything is working good enough, except 4 things:
1) pcmanfm2. It crashes almost everytime I've opened it. No auto-mount at
all and even no mount. I can't mount any USB-drive at all. May be someone
can help me?
When I create symlinks to the Desktop, they don't work.
2) unreadahead gives me a lot of errors during startup.
3) fskbsetting after installation (I think it should be included by default)
gives me segmentation fault and won't work. So I can't switch from US to any
other language using lxpanel-plugin.
4) already reported bug with gnome-power-manager.

And it uses just 90 mb out of 2Gb memory. It looks very perfect.

Hi,

I've had a quick test and I'd say there was a few things missing.

There is no mouse cursor theme at the moment, can I recommennd
dmz-cursor-theme from the repos.

Also, creating a config file for Chromium in the skel directory might be
useful.

Also, might be just a problem for me, but the battery indicator didn't show
up - I'm guessing the icon is missing from the theme. The power manager is
running, but there was no icon.

Is there any plan to include two panels as opposed to the one, sticking with
the Ubuntu/Xubuntu norm?

Also, I'm aware you installed pidgin, but was any consideration ever given
to ayttm? Its multi-protocol, super lightweight and pretty darn good.

Will notify-osd be included or are you sticking with notification-daemon?

I think thats all for now, if I think of anything else I'll send it in,
overall its an excellent release

It's an alsa bug, not specific to Lubuntu. I think alsa was updated

There was not really a thread about games. I just said that maybe the
People who will use lubuntu wont have Internet at all, and Even if
they have a (slowly) connection, they wont know how to install games.
So no matter how many games there are available, they wont play them.
If we put one or too small Games into lubuntu, these people would
thank us . I thought about sth like minesweeper and snake, maybe also
a cardsgame'

To the colours: of course there are other distributions with green,
and maybe also some with lxde. But lubuntu wont Be a Small
Distribution with lxde, it will become an official ubuntu derivat . We
should concentrate on that fact and just see the logos and colours of
the other officially ubuntubased distributions such As xubuntu and
kubuntu. Both of them are Blue. And lubuntu: i don't like purple.
Green would fit into the philsophy of lubuntu and lxde: Not needing
many Ressources, you can use your old computer and don't have to buy a
New one. I would keep on green.

2010-02-17 Thread josef A. Beroeatwarin

Hello again
Its working very nice..and for the nm-applet much better that wicd.
I ditch the chromium browser because its no my flavor in my opinion.
I have only one small problem with my wireless broadband. I use
huawei e220. its Doesn't detected in nm-applet but in lsusb it is detected.
In the first alpha stage it was working with NM-applet with the latest
kernel upgrade.

Tonight I will try again using PPP or wvdial.

Somebody talk about games.. where is the tread?? :-D
I really need 2 games that is really working on my netbook :-D

Gdebi installer would be nice or something like that in Lubuntu??

And does Gdebi really help for people that has no internet. Because in
Indonesia
not everybody can affort internet connection. And even if they have
it,it will be cellphone using as modems.
It would be nice if there is something like that for updating packages
or what-ever to install/update without internet

in deb packages.

thanks

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] New testing ISO 20100215

2010-02-17 Thread Mike Nokel
>
> Hi.

I have found some time to install it on my computer. In general, everything
looks and works perfectly. However, there are some problems:
1) by default, there is no keyboard layout controller on the panel. I think,
that it should be there. A lot of people uses it in everyday's life.
2) as for battery monitor on the panel: it should be visible by default.
This empty space looks really strange.
3) there is still pcmanfm 0.5.2, not pcmanfm2(
4) you have included "osmo" as a default program. My friends and me haven't
heard about this program before. And in everyday life may be it is not so
necessary to be included, I think.
5) without installing packages "xscreensaver-gl", "xscreensaver-gl-extra",
"xscreensaver-data-extra" I see a lot of error messages telling me that
there is no directory "/usr/share/backgrounds". It is annoying.
6) when I launch lxterminal, appeared the window without any string like
this: "ubu...@ubuntu:~/". But when you hit any key on the keyboard it
appears unexpectably.
7) some buttons such as "OK", "Cancel" just don't work (only hitting "Close
Window" helped me to close the windows). It is so when you are configuring
panel for example.
8) you have used LXDM as a login manager. It is perfect, but it has serious
problems:
 - when I enable autologin on it, I just can't switch my keyboard layout
by hitting on the applet on the panel. Only typing "sudo lxpanelctl restart"
helped me.
 - there is no gui-program to configure LXDM yet. For a lot of people it
will be hard to understand what do if they want enable "autologin" or so on.
 - using LXDM I can't modify PATH variable (even modifying file
/etc/profile), so I can't play any games using menu (Menu->Games->...). It
won't work.
9) sound card by default doesn't work. So, I have gone to alsa-project.org,
downloaded the latest driver, lib and utils, installed it. Run "sudo
alsaconf" and after reboot I heart the sound.
10) I've got ati radeon 4670 video, but when I tried to install
"xorg-driver-fglrx", it tells me that he wants to remove xorg with all its
dependencies. Strange behaviour. So, I have only poor 3D now(
11) I've tried to install fskbsetting. But when launching it gives me
"segmentation fault". I don't know why.
12) May be there should be some games, at least some gnome-games?

So, this is my first experience.

Regards,
Michael.

No, for netbooks there is UNE, Lubuntu is for old PC's. Low resources.

You should have 2 arrows on the bottom right, which is the network
utility. If you see "device not manager", it's a problem in
network-manager. See http://wiki.debian.org/NetworkManager and the
section "Wired Networks are Unmanaged"

Yes, there is actually no automounting. Something that need to be fixed.

It's also the case for any Vbox users, because if I understand right,
Vbox driver is not KMS capable inside the guest. You can test the

It's now plymouth which is used. It required kernel mode-settings,
available for ATI, Intel and for Nvidia via the nouveau driver. If it's
not available, you should fallback to a blue progress bar.

That will be interesting to test with a Ubuntu daily build, to see if
it's not a general problem for Lucid.

i ran hardinfo, but it just gave out a 0kb html. the second time, i got

do
we need six virtual consoles running (ctrl alt f1-6)? i guess lubuntu

If the terminals are not in use, i.e. not running something, they don’t

When I get my server back up and running I’ll try and do something with

Lubuntu seems to boot fine, a little slow, but it looks nice on the old
LCD. Eraser head style mouse seems to work fine.

However, I could not seem to find a way to configure the wireless card.
That is when I checked, and the distro is not detecting either of the two PC
cards in the system. So no report on browser speed.

The system did not automatically mount a flash drive. I was able to mount
manually.

Sound does work; I was able to play an ogg file via mplayer off of the
flash drive.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Lubuntu-desktop] New testing ISO 20100215

2010-02-15 Thread Mike Nokel
Hi!
It's great! Nice artwork! Respect for including such applications as
"hardware drivers", "printing", "languages" by default. It now looks very
user-friendly.
However, there are some minor problems:
1) a lot of errors when changing screensavers. It can be solved by creating
directory /usr/share/backgrounds by default.
2) as was discussed earlier when clicking "Desktop Session Settings" the tab
"Desktop" should be opened, not "Interface".
3) why have you choosen "xfburn" to include? I think that the most popular
area for installing LXDE (and of course Lubuntu) are netbooks and they just
don't have any CD/DVD-ROMs... In my opinion, it is unnecessary.

I have tested on my netbook HP 1233 - everything is working perfectly, and
using by default 110 Mb out of 1Gb is impressive (with Ubuntu 9.10 mini.iso
+ LXDE it uses after startup nearly 155 Mb). However, if there is xsplash I
haven't seen it, may be because of my videocard (Via Chrome9), I don't know.

I have also tried to run livecd on my notebook Asus M51TR. However, all that
I have seen was Lubuntu logo for approximately 1 minute after what there
came a kernel panic. I'll try to find solution but exactly now I don't know
why it is happening so.

In conclusion, I would like to say that it looks perfect and amazing. Thank
you!

Michael.

One more thing...

The connected ICON for Network Manager is two arrows, one up the other
down, which persdonally to me does not indicate a network connection.
Can we change this back to the default one of two computers? it
doesn't even look like a network manager this way, or at least even
the ubuntu one where it looks like two sockets plugged in...
