I would like some opinions and suggestions for string lengths on
theorbos as I'm researching possibilities for my next commission. I
really like gut strings, but dislike wound strings or synthetic
strings of any sort. I would like to find out how long does the

I was wondering how many triple roses on theorbos are actually
depicted in existing iconography. I can't find any yet, browsing
through what there is on the net. It makes me wonder - are triple
roses simply a typically early 17th century Italian feature? It seems
that they were

Lightly built vs heavier instruments

I think we are all confusing string lengths and different sizes of
instruments.
Different sizes of lutes can be strung with the same gauges of
strings, but they end up tuned to different pitches.
Theorbos are simply tuned to G or A, while following a pitch standard
(392/415/440). If a

Anyone else notice how the continuo part sounds redundant at times as the
viol is almost always playing it's own accompaniment? The archlute is rarely
playing the bass either. Yes, theorbo would have been nicer. Historically
more accurate and would definitely sound better.

Look for an iPhone microphone adapter. Works on both iPod touch and
iPhone. I have one from griffin, can't remember what it's called, but
it is a quality mic. Checked meantone against my friend's $2,000
tuning machine on the harpsichord and it worked.
