xargs is only needed if you have macros with optional arguments. Of
course, \newcommand could handle the case with one optional. But,
what we need in fact is something equivalent to \global\def for
this case. Is there a way to do this with \newcommand?

I have just upgraded from 1.5.3 (lyx has evolved so rapidly lately that I have

If I got your problem, right click on a picture / table and you should be
able to set the maximum length. It can be a % of the page or it can be
expressed in cm or what you like. I don't remember if it's possible to set a
