Re: Unwanted indent problem (1.2.1)
Hello, Thanks for replying but while what you say is correct, it doesn't solve the problem. As I said, what I'm trying to achieve is have the first line indented of all paragraphs but the first. This is why I am setting \parindent to 2em. In your reply you left out an important line... the one where I have used \noindent to suppress the indent of the first line of the first paragraph (which was supposed to help me achieve the effect I wanted). The whole definition (repeated from my original email) is this: ParIndent MM LeftMarginM RightMargin M Preamble \newenvironment{authorsays}{% \begin{center}% \begin{minipage}{0.5\columnwidth}% \setlength{\parindent}{2em}% \itshape\noindent% }{ \end{minipage} \end{center} } EndPreamble I also said that the first line is indented by a small amount. I should maybe have been more precise and said that it was being indented by much less than 2em. The attached GIF shows the problem. The first paragraph is the normal/standard full-width paragraph. The second and third paragraphs are formatted by the layout I quoted. Note that the first of these has only a tiny indent compared to the second one (which has the full 2em indent). Isn't \parindent set to zero anyway inside a minipage? Or am I misunderstanding what you suggested. LyX-1.2.1 with MacOS 10.2 -- compilation problem.
After failing to get LyX working on MacOS 10.2 with the various fink offerings, I decided to try myself, by getting xforms-0.89.6 from the xforms page, and building LyX-1.2.1 from the source. It gets close -- as far as the final link, which fails with the following error message: ld: Undefined symbols: boost::detail::crc_table_t(unsigned long)32,(unsigned)79764919,(bool)1::table_ If this were Solaris, I might try poking the sources.
Alas, my Solaris experience isn't worth much on this still unfamiliar Mac.) Thanks in advance for suggestions and help, Ronald

I can get rid of it by editing the LaTeX generated by LyX, but I'd naturally prefer not to do that. I have attached three files. The LyX source, the LaTeX generated by LyX, and the layout file which I am using for the document. Add \ignorespaces after the \noindent in your definitions.

Selecting the UI
I'm rebuilding 1.2.1 from the tarball now to see if I get results different from rebuilding the src.rpm. I notice that both the xforms and qt UIs are apparently available. How do I specify the qt flavor rather than the xforms version? Thanks, Rich Dr. Richard B. Shepard, President Applied Ecosystem Services, Inc. lyx 1.2.1 citation bug? (Was: lyx and bibtex, resulting dvi has no cite)
I started having this problem after I installed 1.2.1. I had a document with citations that worked in lyx 1.2.0 but when I upgraded to 1.2.1, loaded the document and made a dvi, all of the citations are displayed as [?] in the text. The funny thing is that, in the bibliograpy printed at the end of the dvi, the cited references do show up correctly ([citation number], authors, journals etc.). Does anyone know if this is a new bug in 1.2.1? From: Noel Koethe [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello, I want to use gbib (Gnome BibTeX Editor) with lyx (latest version in Debian 1.1.6fix4). I can insert citation into my lyx document but viewing the dvi from lyx shows only [?] instead of citation. The log tells me: LaTeX Warning: Citation `abe1998a' on page 1 undefined on input line 19. When I use latex and bibtex by hand it works: (exporting lyx file to latex) - bibtex newfile1 - latex newfile1 - latex newfile1 And I got a correct dvi with the citation. Is there a problem with lyx and bibtex? Or did I get something wrong? thank you. -- Noèl Köthe

Same with the 1.2.1 source tarball. But, no matter how I generate the binary, invoking lyx fails with the error that there's an unresolved symbol. From a google search I gather that the symbol is in libc-2.2 and I have libc-2.1 installed. The newer C library comes with the 2.4 kernel and the RH 7.x series. Rich Dr. Richard B.
On MacOS, I'm lost. The compiler provided with the Developement Tools is gcc-3.1. I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can figure out how to get LyX going on MacOS 10.2. Thanks, Ronald
