Re: Unwanted indent problem (1.2.1)

2002-08-27 Thread Peter

Hello,

Thanks for replying but while what you say is correct, it doesn't solve
the problem.

As I said, what I'm trying to achieve is have the first line indented of
all paragraphs but the first. This is why I am setting \parindent to
2em. In your reply you left out an important line... the one where I
have used \noindent to suppress the indent of the first line of the
first paragraph (which was supposed to help me achieve the effect I
wanted). The whole definition (repeated from my original email) is this:

ParIndent MM
LeftMarginM
RightMargin   M
Preamble
  \newenvironment{authorsays}{%
  \begin{center}%
  \begin{minipage}{0.5\columnwidth}%
  \setlength{\parindent}{2em}%
  \itshape\noindent%
  }{
  \end{minipage}
  \end{center}
  }
EndPreamble

I also said that the first line is indented by a small amount. I should
maybe have been more precise and said that it was being indented by much
less than 2em. The attached GIF shows the problem. The first paragraph
is the normal/standard full-width paragraph. The second and third
paragraphs are formatted by the layout I quoted. Note that the first of
these has only a tiny indent compared to the second one (which has the
full 2em indent).

Isn't \parindent set to zero anyway inside a minipage? Or am I
misunderstanding what you suggested.

 Here you explicitly order a paragraph indent of 2em (approximately the
 twice the width of the letter 'm'.

 Set that to '0em' if you don't want any space there.

And I got a correct dvi with the citation.
Is there a problem with lyx and bibtex?

No. I understand what you mean.

 Lyx needs to know that you are using bibtex and which type of
 reference list you need. You insert this once into the document at the
 point where you want your reference to go. This is the BibTeX reference I

 When you have done this you need to insert the citation you need either in

 The other reason you may get this error is if the citation is missing
 in your .bib file. But then it should not work when you do it manually
 either.

I just solve my problem.
gbib insert into the database field of the bibtex dialog fdtd.bib which is
the correct filename of my bib file. If I remove the .bib (so only fdtd is there)
it works.
Is this a bug in lyx (it doesn't use the filename fdtd.bib and wants to
add the prefix himself) or in gbib (it inserts the complete filename)?

thx.

The newer version of LyX strips .bib off when you type .bib into the

to 1.2.1 and I still have this problem. I'd _reallly_ appreciate some
guidance here; my two messages are the only ones in the archive.

  This is what I see when I try to invoke lyx:

[rshepard@salmo ~]$ lyx
lyx: error in loading shared libraries: lyx: undefined symbol: __dynamic_cast_2

  The 1.1-x versions worked flawlessly here, but these won't. I rebuilt the
src.rpm on my RH 6.2 box, but something's still missing -- even thought I
don't get any errors during the build or install steps.

Thanks,

xforms version?

lyx 1.2.1 citation bug? (Was: lyx and bibtex, resulting dvi has no cite)

2002-08-27 Thread Scott Otterson

I started having this problem after I installed 1.2.1. I had a document with
citations that worked in lyx 1.2.0 but when I upgraded to 1.2.1, loaded the
document and made a dvi, all of the citations are displayed as [?] in the text.
The funny thing is that, in the bibliograpy printed at the end of the dvi, the
cited references do show up correctly ([citation number], authors, journals
etc.).

Does anyone know if this is a new bug in 1.2.1?

 From: Noel Koethe [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Hello,

 I want to use gbib (Gnome BibTeX Editor) with lyx
 (latest version in Debian 1.1.6fix4). I can insert citation
 into my lyx document but viewing the dvi from lyx
 shows only [?] instead of citation.

 The log tells me:
 LaTeX Warning: Citation `abe1998a' on page 1 undefined on input line 19.

 When I use latex and bibtex by hand it works:
 (exporting lyx file to latex)
 - bibtex newfile1
 - latex newfile1
 - latex newfile1

 And I got a correct dvi with the citation.
 Is there a problem with lyx and bibtex?
 Or did I get something wrong?

 thank you.

John,

  I rebuilt both the 1.2.0 and 1.2.1 src.rpms and they installed just fine.
No errors from configure or make. Same with the 1.2.1 source tarball. But,
no matter how I generate the binary, invoking lyx fails with the error that
there's an unresolved symbol.

  From a google search I gather that the symbol is in libc-2.2 and I have
libc-2.1 installed. The newer C library comes with the 2.4 kernel and the RH
7.x series.

LyX-1.2.1 with MacOS 10.2 -- compilation problem.

2002-08-27 Thread Ronald Florence

After failing to get LyX working on MacOS 10.2 with the various fink
offerings, I decided to try myself, by getting xforms-0.89.6 from the
xforms page, and building LyX-1.2.1 from the source. It gets close --
as far as the final link, which fails with the following error message:

   ld: Undefined symbols:
   boost::detail::crc_table_t(unsigned
 long)32,(unsigned)79764919,(bool)1::table_

If this were Solaris, I might try poking the sources. On MacOS, I'm
lost. The compiler provided with the Developement Tools is gcc-3.1.

I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can figure out how to get LyX
going on MacOS 10.2.  Thanks,

Ronald

It's standard in Lyx that you do not add the .bib suffix. See the User

Enumerate without reset problem

2002-08-27 Thread bintut

Hello gurus,

I have another problem with the enumerate without reset feature based from
http://www.lyx.org/help/list/enum.php3.

\newcounter{myEnumCounter}
\newcounter{mySaveCounter}

 }{%
 \setcounter{mySaveCounter}{\value{myEnumCounter}}\end{list}%
}
\newcommand\myEnumReset{\setcounter{mySaveCounter}{0}}
 - - -  s n i p  - - -

My problem is, if I put the above snippet in my preamble, it goes global
which I don't want to happen. Not only that, the second level of some of my
enumeration has been reset and starts as 1 and not 1.1 for example. And if
I tried it as a TeX command, I got so many errors. Any other ideas on how I
can enumerate without reset in a particular part of my documentation?

Thank you very much.

God bless you all...

Re: Unwanted indent problem (1.2.1)

2002-08-27 Thread Peter

Hello,

Thanks for replying but while what you say is correct, it doesn't solve
the problem.

As I said, what I'm trying to achieve is have the first line indented of
all paragraphs but the first. This is why I am setting \parindent to
2em. In your reply you left out an important line... the one where I
have used \noindent to suppress the indent of the first line of the
first paragraph (which was supposed to help me achieve the effect I
wanted). The whole definition (repeated from my original email) is this:

ParIndent MM
LeftMarginM
RightMargin   M
Preamble
  \newenvironment{authorsays}{%
  \begin{center}%
  \begin{minipage}{0.5\columnwidth}%
  \setlength{\parindent}{2em}%
  \itshape\noindent%
  }{
  \end{minipage}
  \end{center}
  }

Or am I
misunderstanding what you suggested.

lyx and bibtex, resulting dvi has no cite

2002-08-27 Thread Noel Koethe

Or did I get something wrong?

thank you.

No. I understand what you mean.

 Lyx needs to know that you are using bibtex and which type of
 reference list you need. You insert this once into the document at the
 point where you want your reference to go. This is the BibTeX reference I
 wrote about.

 When you have done this you need to insert the citation you need either in
 the insert-insert Citation or through gbib.

 The other reason you may get this error is if the citation is missing
 in your .bib file. But then it should not work when you do it manually
 either.

I just solve my problem.
gbib insert into the database field of the bibtex dialog fdtd.bib which is
the correct filename of my bib file. If I remove the .bib (so only fdtd is there)
it works.
Is this a bug in lyx (it doesn't use the filename fdtd.bib and wants to
add the prefix himself) or in gbib (it inserts the complete filename)?

thx.

The newer version of LyX strips .bib off when you type .bib into the

gbib. So the best thing to do is to ask the maintainer of gbib to stop
sending the extension to LyX.

I believe you have to set the column to fixed width first.

if I fix the size of the column, C-Return works but the horizontal

I've solved the problem by inserting a small table with 2 lines and

as far as the final link, which fails with the following error message:

   ld: Undefined symbols:
   boost::detail::crc_table_t(unsigned
 long)32,(unsigned)79764919,(bool)1::table_

If this were Solaris, I might try poking the sources. On MacOS, I'm

I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can figure out how to get LyX

Enumerate without reset problem

2002-08-27 Thread bintut

Hello gurus,

I have another problem with the enumerate without reset feature based from
http://www.lyx.org/help/list/enum.php3.

 - - -  s n i p  - - -
\newcounter{myEnumCounter}
\newcounter{mySaveCounter}
\renewenvironment{enumerate}{%
 \begin{list}{\arabic{myEnumCounter}.}{\usecounter{myEnumCounter}%
 \setcounter{myEnumCounter}{\value{mySaveCounter}}}
 }{%
 \setcounter{mySaveCounter}{\value{myEnumCounter}}\end{list}%
}
\newcommand\myEnumReset{\setcounter{mySaveCounter}{0}}

Re: lyx 1.2.1 citation bug? (Was: lyx and bibtex, resulting dvi has no cite)

Looks like another LaTeX run is needed. LyX should actually take care of
that by itself, but maybe it missed a latex error message telling so...

   Last month I asked twice about this problem with 1.2.0. Today I upgraded
 to 1.2.1 and I still have this problem.

 Thanks,

Well, do a search on google for __dynamic_cast_2. I tried and there are
a lot of reports on this problem. I didn't go as far as to read all the
stuff I found to figure out what your exact problem may be. But it's a
start.
