bug in 1.6.1 display png image
hi all: it seems in 1.6.1 , in windows, the png image was not converting properly and can't be displayed. I close lyx and reopen it, but the problem still exist. I suspect I have the long folder name, but I eliminated this case. see the attachment of the screen shot. But the jpg image were displayed properly. I'm sure the path of ImageMagick was right. Any suggestions? Thank you! <>

i installed Lyx 1.6.0 and MikTex and under the Packeges tab i installed

but under Lyx i get this error:

I wasn't able to read the size data for this font,
so I will ignore the font specification.
[Wizards can fix TFM files using TFtoPL/PLtoTF.]
You might try inserting a different font spec;
e.g., type `I\font='.

While I am not a developer, and so cannot provide authoritative insight into this, my experience is that in 1.6 all references are available from all child documents IF you have the "master" or "parent" document loaded. Note, however, that there are some issues with macros. A macro defined in a parent document will compile fine in a child document, but the instant preview feature is broken. No word as to if/when that will be fixed. In older versions of Lyx, cross-references with multiple documents showed up conveniently, using a drop-down list in the cross-reference dialog. I'm now using Lyx 1.6 and cannot find any such drop-down list in the dialog. The help file on cross-references offers the following: "This section is somewhat out of date. Need to describe default master documents and how children are opened when the master is. Sounds like maybe mpm is installing them outside your TeX directory
structure. If you want to get mpm to work, try the following (in a shell):
1. Run 'kpsewhich article.cls' to find out where TeXLive is rooting the
texmf tree. Mine seems to be split between /usr/share/texmf and
/usr/share/texmf-texlive, the latter holding most of it.
2. Have mpm install a package in verbose mode ('sudo mpm --verbose
--install=algorithmicx' for instance), and see where it ends up being
installed.
If mpm is not putting it in either the system texmf tree (say,
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/algorithmicx/) or your personal local
texmf tree, then chances are TeXLive can't see it.
To change where mpm installs stuff, try 'sudo mpm --install-root=...'.
You can set it to the TeXLive .../texmf/ directory or to your local
texmf directory (which you may need to create -- I think the TeXLive
default is ~/texmf/). I recommend installing to the local ~/texmf
directory; that way, if you uninstall/reinstall TeXLive for any reason,
you don't lose the extra stuff you installed via mpm.
Also, if you find having to sudo every damn thing with mpm, you can just
take ownership. From my home directory (after getting mpm working), I did
sudo chown -R myname:mygroup .miktex/
and
sudo chown -R myname:mygroup texmf/
(and maybe one other directory subtree? can't recall). That seemed to
convince all players that I owned the local texmf.

see it in the Ubuntu repositories. (I'm afraid that on Linux I've been

I tried installing TeXLive 2008 on Ubuntu yesterday (after deleting the
old TeXLive to avoid conflicts). After beating my head against the
monitor for an hour or so, I reverted to the supported version of
TeXLive. I think it would have been fine if I'd installed the full
distribution, but I did the basic installation, figuring I'd add
packages as needed. That screwed up LyX royally, including some weird
configuration problems. Some of it eventually traced back to missing
fonts, which I think were part of the TeXLive "extra" fonts package.
Anyway, if you decide to go with TeXLive 2008, I recommend installing
the whole thing (or at least most of it).
As far as I could tell with tlmgr (the TeXLive 2008 package manager),
TeXLive still bundles a lot of packages (especially fonts) into big
all-or-nothing collections. I'm not positive about that, though; could
have been operator error. :-)

textcomp error with \textbigcircle
I need to use \textbigcircle (via Insert > Special Character > Symbols). LyX automatically loads the textcomp package, but I end up getting the following error: ! Package textcomp Error: Symbol \textbigcircle not provided by (textcomp)font family pplj in TS1 encoding. (textcomp)Default family used instead. See the textcomp package documentation for explanation. As a workaround, I can pass the "warn" option to textcomp, and everything works fine. Am I doing something wrong? How can I avoid having to use the workaround? Bennett

Hi,everyone. I have download the "LyX-161-4-16-AltInstaller-Update.exe" to update my previous 1.6.0 version. It seems that the "D:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.0" were renamed to "D:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.1". But there is a problem. In the menu Tools->preference->paths There are still "d:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.0\etc\ImageMagick"... So, I should manually change to "d:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.0\etc\ImageMagick" to let image conversion works correctly.

I am running Kubuntu 8.10 64 bits, which had Lyx 1.5X in its repository, and I was unable to upgrade to 1.6 because of the difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit architectures. Hello Cannot open a document created by Lyx 1.6.0 on Windows Vista using Lyx 1.5.6 on Linux. Instead I get the error message: LyX: Conversion script failed filename.lyx is from a different version of LyX, but the lyx2lyx script failed to convert it. What should I do? Thanks Guy

That is true - but only packages which are in the newer versions of Ubuntu will be backported - i.e. if intrepid has only Lyx 1.5, 1.6 will not be available. That would be the place where you should ask about adding the recent LyX releases. Beside that there shouldn't be any technical problems with recompiling the source package on older Ubuntu releases. Maybe one should note that the latest math manual requires a TeX styles that is not part of Debian and so I would guess it's also not part of Ubuntu. Yes, I know that, and I tried different settings. But now, after
reinstalling Aspell and installing various dictionaries several times (only
the english one worked at the first time), at least the old
german-dictionary (and english and spanish) works. I still did not get the
new german dictionary working.

that´s what I get:

is one of:

-a|pipe "ispell -a" compatibility mode
[dump] configdumps the current configuration to stdout
config prints the current value of an option
[dump] dicts | filters | modes
lists available dictionaries / filters / filter modes
[options] is any of the following:
--encoding=encoding to expect data to be in
--mode=filter mode
-l,--lang= language code
-d,--master= base name of the main dictionary to use
--sug-mode=suggestion mode
I don´t see any dictionary here, although some are working.
I also have an additional question here:
On the wiki there is mentioned, that I have to do the following to save new
words to the dictionary on my own:
"If at this point you are unable to save new words to the personal
dictionary you will need to edit the file at /usr/local/etc/aspell.conf.
Remove the line "home-dir $HOME/Library/Preferences/aspell" (line 38
including blanks), or disable it by adding a "#" sign at the begining."
Again I don´t know how to do that as I don´t find the appropriate folder. I
do find usr in developer, but there is no folder with the name "local"…
