relyx issue: got CLS, wants LAYOUT

Hi people,
I need help in the addition and use of a new class.
A forthcoming conference just provided a package for us to write our

i.e. a class file, a style file, and an example file - so I guess (LyX

The problem: when importing hmm2005.tex, relyx says:
   reLyX directory is: /usr/local/share/lyx/reLyX
reLyX, the LaTeX to LyX translator. Revision date 2003/01/20

LyX - LaTeX2e

1999-06-10 Thread Alessandro Magni

I got lyx ver 1.0.0, and installed the latest teTeX distribution, that
gives on the command
line latex:

This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (C version 6.1)
**

Starting LyX's configure, I obtain (snipped out the
"yes" answers):

checking for a LaTeX2e program...
+checking for "latex"... not useable
+checking for "latex2e"... not useable
...
checking for ChkTeX...
+checking for "chktex"... no
...

What? NOT USEABLE? My teTeX directory contains -
among the others - two dirs,
named "latex" and "latex209".
I suppose the first one is LaTeX2e (but I don't know
how to check).

What's wrong? If the latest teTeX distribution
doesn't give you LATEX2e, where to get it?
How to make LyX see that I really got latex??

Thanks for any help

P.S. Could you please reply to me even, to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ???
Thanks!

RevTeX

1999-06-23 Thread Alessandro Magni

I am a newbie to TeX, so this could explain many things.
After installing LyX, I tried to read a paper of a friend of main,
written down in laTeX, using RevTeX macros.
Update postscript gave me a lot (more than 500) errors, even after
specifying to use Layout-document-revTeX.

There is something I do not know?

Thanks a lot

document classes

2002-11-25 Thread Alessandro Magni
A complete TeX newbie here...

my configure command reports:

...

+checking for document class aapaper [aa]... no
+checking for document class aastex [aastex]... no
+checking for document class amsart [amsart]... no

+checking for document class amsbook [amsbook]... no
+checking for document class apa [apa,apacite.sty]... no
+checking for document class article [article]... no

do you know where I can get those document classes - and where to install
them?
(Here using tetex-1.0.7-47)

Thanks!

Document classes

2002-11-25 Thread Alessandro Magni

Version should be sufficient.

However, I am not sure this is the right package. I have here additionally
a packages te_latex (SuSE 7.x) installed that contains e.g. the latex
binary and amsbook.cls.

to be exact, I have:
rpm -qa|grep tetex
tetex-afm-1.0.7-47
tetex-fonts-1.0.7-47
tetex-dvips-1.0.7-47
tetex-1.0.7-47
tetex-latex-1.0.7-47
tetex-xdvi-1.0.7-47
tetex-dvilj-1.0.7-47

Further checking, I saw:
rpm -ql tetex-latex-1.0.7-47|grep article
...
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/article.cls
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/article.sty

So? Why LyX doesnt find all those doc classes???

Looks around puzzled

lost path

2002-11-25 Thread Alessandro Magni
What I really HATE are those errors coming and going without reason
(it happens with my car engine too, sometimes...)
I don't understand TeX, doesnt want to, and thats why I use LyX.
I had to curse the heavens to install the bloody Revtex4 package, God knows
how but I made it.
I wrote a whole article with it. Now, 2 days after - not having done anything
I swear to my TeX install - I got some 10 errors when viewing it postscript.

Then I notice the dreaded:
... Package graphics Error: No driver specified ...

saying that I need a graphics.cfg file.
Yet a file /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/config/graphics.cfg exists! Well, I try
creating a graphics.cfg file in my doc directory, with \ExecuteOptions{dvips}
inside

Then again I get an error saying that dvips.def cannot be found - yet it is in
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/graphics/dvips.def .
I copy it in the doc directory,

and finally

it works

Now:
what exactly happened?
I swear I didnt change anything, why I had to do all this kinda steps???

I got the impression that somehow TeX/Latex/LyX didnt know exactly the paths
anymore, but that's just an impression ...

any idea? I'd hate to follow again all those steps...

thanks

Re: graphics conversion for preview

2002-11-26 Thread Alessandro Magni
Strange as it may seem,
I have the opposite problem:
I often happen to change a figure (usually I use: insert wide figure Float,
and inside: insert graphics),
but my change isnt reflected in Ghostview, both by a preview postscript or by
an update postscript:
I have to exit and restart LyX!
Seems strange and opposite to what you see.
BTW I have 1.2.1 too.

Bye

Alessandro

On Tuesday 26 November 2002 09:29, Peer Frank wrote:
 Hi !

LyX (1.2.1) is converting all the figures for each preview or update
which is getting annoying for documents with plenty of figures.

 - isn't it possible to have this done only once (initial run or after
any change on graphics files) and keep the converted files in a tmp
 directory ?

I got lyx ver 1.0.0, and installed the latest teTeX distribution, that
gives on the command
line latex:

This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (C version 6.1)
**

Starting LyX's configure, I obtain (snipped out the
"yes" answers):

checking for a LaTeX2e program...
+checking for "latex"... not useable
+checking for "latex2e"... not useable
...
checking for ChkTeX...
+checking for "chktex"... no
...

What? NOT USEABLE? My teTeX directory contains -
among the others - two dirs,
named "latex" and "latex209".
I suppose the first one is LaTeX2e (but I don't know
how to check).

What's wrong? If the latest teTeX distribution
doesn't give you LATEX2e, where to get it?
How to make LyX see that I really got latex??

Thanks for any help

P.S. Could you please reply to me even, to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ???
Thanks!

RevTeX

1999-06-23 Thread Alessandro Magni

I am a newbie to TeX, so this could explain many things.
After installing LyX, I tried to read a paper of a friend of main,
written down in laTeX, using RevTeX macros.
Update postscript gave me a lot (more than 500) errors, even after
specifying to use Layout-document-revTeX.

There is something I do not know?

Thanks a lot

Alessandro

Document classes

2002-11-25 Thread Alessandro Magni

Version should be sufficient.

However, I am not sure this is the right package. I have here additionally
a packages te_latex (SuSE 7.x) installed that contains e.g. the latex
binary and amsbook.cls.

to be exact, I have:
rpm -qa|grep tetex
tetex-afm-1.0.7-47
tetex-fonts-1.0.7-47
tetex-dvips-1.0.7-47
tetex-1.0.7-47
tetex-latex-1.0.7-47
tetex-xdvi-1.0.7-47
tetex-dvilj-1.0.7-47

Further checking, I saw:
rpm -ql tetex-latex-1.0.7-47|grep article
...
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/article.cls
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/article.sty

So? Why LyX doesnt find all those doc classes???

Looks around puzzled

lost path

2002-11-25 Thread Alessandro Magni
What I really HATE are those errors coming and going without reason
(it happens with my car engine too, sometimes...)
I don't understand TeX, doesnt want to, and thats why I use LyX.
I had to curse the heavens to install the bloody Revtex4 package, God knows
how but I made it.
I wrote a whole article with it. Now, 2 days after - not having done anything
I swear to my TeX install - I got some 10 errors when viewing it postscript.

Then I notice the dreaded:
... Package graphics Error: No driver specified ...

saying that I need a graphics.cfg file.
Yet a file /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/config/graphics.cfg exists! Well, I try
creating a graphics.cfg file in my doc directory, with \ExecuteOptions{dvips}
inside

Then again I get an error saying that dvips.def cannot be found - yet it is in
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/graphics/dvips.def .
I copy it in the doc directory,

and finally

it works

Now:
what exactly happened?
I swear I didnt change anything, why I had to do all this kinda steps???

I got the impression that somehow TeX/Latex/LyX didnt know exactly the paths
anymore, but that's just an impression ...

any idea? I'd hate to follow again all those steps...

thanks

Re: graphics conversion for preview

2002-11-26 Thread Alessandro Magni
Strange as it may seem,
I have the opposite problem:
I often happen to change a figure (usually I use: insert wide figure Float,
and inside: insert graphics),
but my change isnt reflected in Ghostview, both by a preview postscript or by
an update postscript:
I have to exit and restart LyX!
Seems strange and opposite to what you see.
BTW I have 1.2.1 too.

Bye

Alessandro

 Hi !

LyX (1.2.1) is converting all the figures for each preview or update
which is getting annoying for documents with plenty of figures.

 - isn't it possible to have this done only once (initial run or after
any change on graphics files) and keep the converted files in a tmp
 directory ?

Well, that's strange it works fine for me. So, first things first.
After you installed elsart and did a texhash and reconfigure on LyX.
Did you check to make sure that it was actually recognized by LyX?

Meaning 'article (Elsevier)' is actually listed in
Document->Settings->Document Class or Help->LaTeX Configuration
Section 4.11 says elsart is found.

Cheers,
/Bob

yes:

Document->Settings->Document Class lists it as:
article(Elsevier)

Help->LaTeX Configuration:

4.11 elsart
Found: yes
CTAN: macros/latex/contrib/elsevier/

Notes: This package is intended for producing journal articles for
publication by Elsevier Science.

well, the problem is solved...
I obtained the original Elsevier class files from the conference website

elsart5.cls).

Now that I downloaded them straight from Elsevier I have no more problems...

thank you!

relyx issue: got CLS, wants LAYOUT

2004-12-15 Thread Alessandro Magni
Hi people,
I need help in the addition and use of a new class.
A forthcoming conference just provided a package for us to write our
papers. It contains:

hmm.cls
flushend.sty
hmm2005.tex
i.e. a class file, a style file, and an example file - so I guess (LyX
made me lazy, so my understanding of the
Latex world of classes is a bit vague).

The problem: when importing hmm2005.tex, relyx says:
   reLyX directory is: /usr/local/share/lyx/reLyX
reLyX, the LaTeX to LyX translator. Revision date 2003/01/20
   Reading LaTeX command syntax
   (hmm2005.tex: Splitting Preamble
   Creating LyX preamble
Cannot find layout file hmm.layout in dir(s) /root/.lyx/layouts
/usr/local/share/lyx/layouts at
   /usr/local/share/lyx/reLyX/ReadCommands.pm line 267, line 12.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/bin/reLyX line 76,
 line 12.
   Exited due to fatal Error!

now: why do I need a hmm.layout, when I already have the cls file? I
know for sure that hmm2005.tex compiles
correctly under latex, so it is a relyx issue...

thanks for any help...

Document classes

to be exact, I have:
rpm -qa|grep tetex
tetex-afm-1.0.7-47
tetex-fonts-1.0.7-47
tetex-dvips-1.0.7-47
tetex-1.0.7-47
tetex-latex-1.0.7-47
tetex-xdvi-1.0.7-47
tetex-dvilj-1.0.7-47

Further checking, I saw:
rpm -ql tetex-latex-1.0.7-47|grep article
...
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/article.cls
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/article.sty

So? Why LyX doesnt find all those doc classes???

Well, I try
creating a graphics.cfg file in my doc directory, with \ExecuteOptions{dvips}
inside

Then again I get an error saying that dvips.def cannot be found - yet it is in
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/graphics/dvips.def .
I copy it in the doc directory,

and finally

it works

Now:
what exactly happened?
I swear I didnt change anything, why I had to do all this kinda steps???

I got the impression that somehow TeX/Latex/LyX didnt know exactly the paths
anymore, but that's just an impression ...

any idea? I'd hate to follow again all those steps...

thanks

Alessandro

Re: graphics conversion for preview

2002-11-26 Thread Alessandro Magni
Strange as it may seem,
I have the >opposite< problem:
I often happen to change a figure (usually I use: insert wide figure Float,
and inside: insert graphics),
but my change isnt reflected in Ghostview, both by a preview postscript or by
an update postscript:
I have to exit and restart LyX!
Seems strange and opposite to what you see.
BTW I have 1.2.1 too.

Bye

Alessandro
