Music sheets LyX

2001-06-01 Thread EagleIce

Hello all!

I need to put some music notation in a book document layout. I have tried to
convert picture files (bmp, jpg f.ex.) to eps but that doesn't work at all,
some bar lines dissappear etc.
What is the best way to do this for example if the sheets are in dvi, ps or
pdf format (made by Lilypond)?

Cheers,
ei

Thank's a lot, they were even installed on my system...:-)
IMO it would be nice if the programmers agreed on some standard concerning
the file converters run command, to me it seems for example quite logical if
they all included 2 between the file extensions (like ps2pdf, html2ps).

Cheers,

If you have really much music in the book, consider using lilypond-book

Thank's a lot for your interesting information, and now I've downloaded
lilypond 1.4.2 to check it out. Usually I don't bother checking any updates
because SuSE itself updates the whole distro a couple of times a year anyway,

I just wonder if someone else has been having some kinds of weird messages

Hi!
My favorite method with my novells and books is:

Layout - Dokument Layout - Dokument - Fonts: Times - Font Size: 12

Export as ps and do ps2pdf, it's beautiful! I just tested the 1.1.6fix1
direct pdf export possibility and it too looks very good.
Perhaps you should take a look at:

Edit - Preferences - Converters - PDF
Mine is like that:

Format: pdf
GUI name: PDF
Extension: pdf
Viewer: gv

Hi!
My favorite method with my novells and books is:

Layout -> Dokument Layout -> Dokument -> Fonts: Times -> Font Size: 12

Export as ps and do ps2pdf, it's beautiful! I just tested the 1.1.6fix1
direct pdf export possibility and it too looks very good.
Perhaps you should take a look at:

Edit -> Preferences -> Converters -> PDF
Mine is like that:

Format: pdf
GUI name: PDF
Extension: pdf
Viewer: gv

Cheers,

ei

As far as i know now, it should possible with the 1.1.6 release.
However, when I installed it, I wasn't able to do it.

LyX-SuSE 7.1-COL 2.4

2001-05-11 Thread EagleIce

Hello all!

I am a great admirer of LyX, as a writer and translator I just love working
with it. And now I managed to install 1.1.6fix1 from source on my SuSE 7.1,
Ilove it! But there's something weird here I think, the sub-menus Import /
Export are empty, and the preview for ps / dvi are missing. Why id this?

Since I work on two different (Linux) computers in two different places, and
I haven't been able to work with the same .lyx files between those without
messing up the files, because the one in my home box is SuSE 7.1 with LyX
1.1.5fix1, and at work it's Caldera eDesktop 2.4 with the incredibly ugly
KLyX. Now I'm gonna give it a try to install 1.1.6fix1 on the eDesktop box
too, even though I have bad experience trying to install non-Caldera packages
in the Caldera dist.

Cheers,

ei

Re: File corruption in LyX 1.1.14

Hi!

I have encountered the same problems with different versions of LyX in SuSE
and Mandrake and specially when dealing with (the monster-ugly) KLyX in
Caldera. But I realized that the text that I thought had vanished, actually
was there in the raw text files (thank god for that!).
For me this has made it impossible for me to work with the same files on
different boxes (home-work) if they don't run the same version of LyX.

 - protected spaces disappear, no space at all shows up.

standard text, weird things may happen
 - if such a corrupted file is saved and re-opened, more corruption may

The problem does not appear on documents originally created and processed

Any clue on why this happens, and any solution other than upgrading LyX?

I know upgrade would help as I have already compiled 1.1.6 but not yet
done 'make install'. I've tried to keep this Debian-machine as Potato as
possible -- that's why I'd like not to upgrade until later versions are
 included in Potato.

As I understand LyX, it is a front end to LaTeX, much of the codes are

nice to see the hidden codes: you can learn them, you can modify them,
you get more control over your document.

Is this idea beyond the philosophy of LyX?

Hmmm... I myself use three different languages frequently with LyX, english,
swedish and icelandic, and I never have problems with that.
Just to check this out I made one dokument in all three languages right now
and it previews perfectly in both dvi and ps. I kept the language setting in
english though.

 Put
 \usepackage{graphics}
 in the preamble,

 then (in ERT)

 \begin{picture}(0,0)(-330,-210)
 \includegraphics{../whatever.eps}

just after your title - you will need to fiddle with the coordinates to
position the picture. You won't see this in LyX either, so you have to do
a lot of view DVIs before the position is correct!

 Hi,

I have checked through the various FAQ's and the archive but
as yet have been unable to find an answer to this question.

The problem that I have is that the output to pdf is "furry".
Text in a dvi is sharp and perfect. The postscript is slightly furry
and the pdf is so furry its almost unreadable.

If anyone could give me some ideas as to where to start looking
 I would appreciate it.

 Regards,

 Red

Re: output quality from .ps and .pdf poor

2001-03-25 Thread EagleIce

Hello,

I had this same problem in SuSE, and I also thought that in the default font
layout the text was too small when printed on paper. So now I do Layout ->
Document -> Fonts: Times -> Font Size: 12, and it looks very as both ps and
pdf now, on paper it's very good.

Cheers,

ei

Try to use a Chapter* environment with a Ctrl-Space character in it.

 Hmpfr, why not?

 ../UserGuide.lyx

 #!/usr/bin/lyx
 #LyX 1.1. create...
 \lyxformat ...

 would perhaps work
 (It did work!)

This works on Linux, not sure if other os's will handle it the same
 way.

OK, I got it now, thank you!
