Translating theorem-like statements: 100%
Hi, I have uploaded my translations of the theorems-related modules to the wiki. You can find them on this page: http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/ThmsFr You're welcome to move or improve the page in any way. In particular, the step 2 would need to be adapted to other OSes than Linux: I don't have a Windows PC at hand with LyX installed, so I'm not sure how to replace ~/.lyx/layouts. I just took the zipped archive that Ignacio Garcia had posted, and translated his Spanish translations into French (refreshing my Spanish in the process). That's certainly what I missed. (I don't know which setting in my ~/.lyx folder interfered...) With the simple theorems module, it's OK. However, I can't get independent numbering with this module. I can do without it... One more hint. Perhaps you have not installed the package 'translator'. This package is included in the .deb package texlive-latex-extra 2009-7ubuntu3 available in the repositories for Ubuntu Lucid. I'll do that if nothing else works, but as you say, it should not be needed. And now it's the strange thing: the package translator provides natively the french '.dict' file (see /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/translator), I confirm the /translator folder is here. The translator-theorem-dictionary-French.dict looks right. The translator package appears to be loaded automatically by the default (Warsaw) Beamer theme. Then, a french beamer doc should be automatically translated: in fact, here I open the template file fr_beamer-conference-ornate-20min.lyx and I view 'corollaire' théorème' in LyX window Indeed in my LyX window it's OK too. So, something has to be working there, at least partially... and also in pdf output. Too bad! I can't see the translations in preview... (only 'corollary', 'theorem'...). Regards Ignacio G. When I read this, I had the idea of renaming my ~/.lyx folder. Tried a new French Beamer template and previewed... and bingo! The theorem names were in French. So, something in my ~/.lyx folder interfered with the translations. I think I'll keep the fresh ~/.lyx and carefully restore the settings I need. I'm also pretty confident that it will also solve my second problem (the printed documents, and the solution you described in your April 2009 mail, that I could not get working so far). One more hint. Perhaps you have not installed the package 'translator'. This package is included in the .deb package texlive-latex-extra 2009-7ubuntu3 available in the repositories for Ubuntu Lucid. When I read this, I had the idea of renaming my ~/.lyx folder. Tried a new French Beamer template and previewed... and bingo! The theorem names were in French. So, something in my ~/.lyx folder interfered with the translations. I think I'll keep the fresh ~/.lyx and carefully restore the settings I need. I'm also pretty confident that it will also solve my second problem (the printed documents, and the solution you described in your April 2009 mail, that I could not get working so far). Here is the contents of my ~/.lyx/layouts folder: theorems-ams-extended.module theorems-ams.inc theorems.inc theorems-starred-equivalents.inc theorems-starred.inc theorems-starred.module theorems-std.module Maybe I should move the whole /usr/share/lyx/layouts there? I even thought of modifying the original files (probably a bad idea). Moreover, I wonder how the statements will get translated in Beamer, as it doesn't seem to use any of the theorems modules (but there is a choice of theorems in the drop-down box). Dear list members, I am struggling a little to get my theorem headers translated into French. The problem is twofold: For printed documents, I can't get the full benefit of the modules features as if I load, e.g. Theorems (AMS), the headers come out in English (not surprisingly, also in English in the LyX window). So I have to revert to ERT and \newtheorem in the preamble. But I'll need to use Beamer int the next months, so I made some tests. I choose File - New with template - fr_beamer-conference-ornate-20min.lyx. No module needs to be loaded to get theorem, corollary,... in the drop-down box. They appear in French, as well as in the LyX window. Alas, they preview in English. I have reviewed the post on April, 22, 2009 by Michael Solis Chacon and the reply by Ignacio García, but I was unable to get it working: I did translate the .modules and .inc files, but I don't know how to make LyX use them.
