All,

I have nothing to contribute to the discussion of licensing (I am not a
lawyer).

But isn't it significant that a major university (which has been ranked
#1 in Australia and #31 worldwide) is interested in making LyX
available in all its computer labs?

It would probably be a very easy fix to make the dialog non-modal.

FYI, the reason we have this at all is to make it possible for people to
stop processes that are going on too long. As Scott sort of said, once
we have the ability to cancel this kind of thing, the timeout may no
longer be necessary. But that is still a bit buggy.

Note that by LyX 2.4.0 we will have a feature where you can cancel the

Just Do It! — Long Export Process Halted to Query Continuation

2018-02-16 Thread Daniel Kian Mc Kiernan
Is there a way of telling LyX to continue an export process without
pausing to query me as to whether I wish it to continue?

Occasionally, I want to convert a paper to OpenDocument format. The
process takes rather a long time. I'd like to go away from it, so
that I can be productive in some other way. But LyX repeatedly posts
a dialog that cries ‘The command / mk4ht oolatex ".tex" /
has not yet completed. / / Do you want to stop it?’ So that I'm forced
to babysit it.

On the one hand, I quite understand why a query is made. On the other
hand, I don't understand why a “Just Do It!” option or a user-set
timer doesn't seem available, as there are various ways within most or
all OSs to terminate processes.

(Obviously, if all else fails then I can punt to the command line to
run oolatex.)

How would I be able to do this? I have followed some instructions from the

This is a slightly urgent question, so I would appreciate the quick reply.

  From my keyboard:

   Hello Jürgen,

Thank you. Yes I used "Ctrl" for the purpose, but thought there
  must have been another way.

Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Query about table of contents in Lyx

2015-09-20 Thread Frederick FN Noronha फ्रेड्रिक नोरोन्या *فريدريك نورونيا
Some of my chapter titles are really long. I'd like to break them into two
lines (at a point where I want it, without the line being justified).

Can someone kindly let me know how this is done using the ERT for creating
the table of contents?

Many thanks! FN

Small query on windows shortcuts

2014-03-25 Thread Pavel Sanda
Dear Windows LyX users,

while trying to figure out some error reports, can you please give us feedback
whether Ctrl+Alt shortcuts do work with your setup?
You can you use e.g. Ctrl+Alt+1 to setup bookmark and try to navigate from
other part of your document.

We need that your reply contains:
- shortcut works or no
- windows version
- lyx version
- keyboard layout used (non-US layouts are of particular interest)

Thanks,
Pavel

Case I:
Bookmark shortcuts do not work
Windows 7
LyX 2.1.0dev
Keyboard Layout: US (International)

In this case, Ctrl+Alt+5 gives Euro sign (according to the print on the
keyboard).

Case II:
Bookmark shortcuts do work
Windows 7
LyX 2.1.0dev
Keyboard Layout: US

Case III:
Bookmark shortcuts do not work
Windows 7
LyX 2.1.0dev
Keyboard Layout: Dutch
In this case, Ctrl+Alt+5 gives 1/2 character (this is not the correct
keyboard layout)

Windows 7 (64 bit), LyX 2.1.0beta2, US keyboard. The Ctrl+Alt+1 etc.

Meanwhile we found the problem. LyX uses the framework Qt for its Windows,
Dialogs etc.:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qt_%28software%29
The latest versions of Qt have a bug that destroys some shortcuts on Windows. For example alt+m (
in math does not work and AltGr+7 on German keyboards does not give a { character.

Unfortunately the latest Windows LyX installer from came with the buggy Qt
libraries.

So if shortcuts like alt+m ( in math do not work for you on Windows _AND_ if you installed LyX

I will make an announcement tomorrow when the new installer is available on

Case I:
Bookmark shortcuts do not work
Windows 7
LyX 2.1.0dev
Keyboard Layout: "US (International)"

In this case, Ctrl+Alt+5 gives Euro sign (according to the print on the
keyboard).

Case II:
Bookmark shortcuts do work
Windows 7
LyX 2.1.0dev
Keyboard Layout: "US"

Case III:
Bookmark shortcuts do not work
Windows 7
LyX 2.1.0dev
Keyboard Layout: "Dutch"
In this case, Ctrl+Alt+5 gives 1/2 character (this is not the correct
keyboard layout)

We need that your reply contains:

Windows 7 (64 bit), LyX 2.1.0beta2, US keyboard. The Ctrl+Alt+1 etc.

Meanwhile we found the problem. LyX uses the framework "Qt" for its Windows,
Dialogs etc.:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qt_%28software%29
The latest versions of Qt have a bug that destroys some shortcuts on Windows. For example "alt+m ("
in math does not work and "AltGr+7" on German keyboards does not give a "{" character.

Unfortunately the latest Windows LyX installer from came with the buggy Qt
libraries.

So if shortcuts like "alt+m (" in math do not work for you on Windows _AND_ if you installed LyX
after March 8, 2014, then please reinstall using the fixed LyX for Windows installer:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/lyxwininstaller/files/LyXWinInstaller/2.0.7/LyX-207-Installer-4.exe/download

I will make an announcement tomorrow when the new installer is available on
www.lyx.org.

sorry for the inconvenience and regards

Try using LyX own ephm*asis* feature (on my Mac that's Cmd-E) with the text

Apologies if I'm answering a question you are not asking; I jumped into this
thread a bit late.

You can point MiKTeX's package manager at any repository, which can be one
downloaded to a local or networked drive. The repository is not a server (in

FWIW, I have MiKTeX set to ask first when it encounters new software packages.
When I install a new LyX version, it looks for a variety of packages, many of
which I will not use in this lifetime (nor the next). I don't plan to draw
chess diagrams, write music, or explore the wonders of Chinese/Japanese/Korean
languages any time soon. So when the LyX installer goes looking for those
classes or styles, MiKTeX asks me for permission to download them and I say no.
For things I think I might need, I say yes. The installation process is then
relatively painless. The no decisions can always be revisited (use the
package manager to install a missing package, then reconfigure LyX).

LYX software query

2011-03-24 Thread Ben Lincoln
Hi,

I work in the IT arena at Deutsche Bank, a user has come to me requesting LYX
on his work PC

Please could you give me some information on the following:

Lyx being free, is this something that can also be installed within a
Corporate environment or does this change the perspective on it?

It seems that when you installed it requires the ability to go to the web and
pull down files, could you confirm that this is the case?

Being a Corporate Environment we have firewalls in place and this would block
certain ports, what ports does this software communicate through.

Does the software require a 2 way ability to run.

Is the an alternative install method/cost for Banks etc?

Sorry for all the question but do appreciate your help

Many thanks in advance
Ben

No, you can use it freely.

It seems that when you installed it requires the ability to go to the
web and pull down files, could you confirm that this is the case?

This is not necessary. Either you install MikTeX (assuming you are
talking about windows) separately, or you can download the
installer-bundle (IIRC this includes MikTeX).

Being a Corporate Environment we have firewalls in place and this
would block certain ports, what ports does this software communicate

When LyX is installed, there is no communication needed.

No.

You can hire me as a consultant to help you out and create an
alternative install method that suits your preferences/needs.

the problem is that some styles/classes are downloaded by miktex itself
and by default miktex tries to update things as well iirc.
