Does that fix any problems with 2.0? (If > so, you can do the same trick with 1.6.) That was good hint, thanks a lot. The command line in my case was: Z:\ntdata\Anwendungsdaten\LyX2.0> "C:\Program Files\lyx2.0\Python\python.exe" "C:\Program Files\LyX2.0\Resources\configure.py" It took a lot longer (something like 10 minutes) than the normal reconfigure does, but now I have my classes in the menu. For LyX 1.6.10 it was much faster (seconds only) and also solved the problem: Z:\ntdata\Anwendungsdaten\lyx16>"C:\Program Files\lyx2.0\Python\python.exe" "C:\Program Files\LyX 1.6.10\Resources\configure.py" Let me add that z:, where my user files are, is a mapped network drive. So everything is fine now. Maybe writing to the user directory should become standard for the first configuration and "Tools > Reconfigure"? Matthias

We can try an experiment to see if failed writes to the program directory might be the problem. Log in as the limited rights user and open a command prompt in the LyX 2.0 user directory (C:\Documents and Settings\id>\Application Data\lyx20, if memory serves). From that prompt, run C:\Program Files\lyx20\Python\python.exe C:\Program FIles\LyX2.0\Resources\configure.py which should do the same thing that Tools > Reconfigure does, but with file writes occurring in the local user directory (where the limited user has full permissions). When you successfully run latex at a command prompt, you are doing so with the limited rights account, correct? Am I correct in assuming that if you log in with the local admin account, LyX works correctly for you? One thing you might try is to delete the local LyX directory for the limited rights user, then restart LyX (as the limited rights user) and let it try to rebuild that directory. I think the directory is usually stored at C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\lyx. (Unfortunately I don't have access to a Win XP machine anymore.) Just delete the entire directory. I you have modified any bind or layout files, you might want to back those up first, but if this is an out-of-the-box LyX installation there is nothing there you need to worry about. Paul

Hi, I should add the MikTeX itself is working fine, I can generate PDFs from tex files without problem. As I just found out, it seems that PDFs generated from LyX are also fine and respect the chosen class. Dear Matthias, AFAIK, 2.0RC3 installer for Windows has a problem that renders your MikTeX installation useless. This happened to me and I had to reinstall it again. no classes available after installation of 1.6.10 and 2.0.0-3
Hello, First of all sorry if this message comes twice. I sent it first yesterday without being subscribed, and according to http://news.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.general it does not seem to have come through: I am working on Windows XP as a network-authenticated (Kerberos) user with limited rights and I also have a local administrator account. Today, I have upgraded my 1.6.9 installation to 1.6.10 and installed 2.0.0-3, both with the local admin account. Everything worked perfectly with that account. I also had successfully installed 1.6.8 before using this path. But when I now start LyX as the normal user with limited rights, no document classes are available in neither 1.6.10 nor 2.0.0. They are all in the list, but marked as "not available". What can be the reason for this? I tried "texhash --admin" and "texhash", but neither helped. Thanks for your advice. Matthias
