Re: Spellcheck>SOLVED

2020-11-15 Thread Wolfgang Engelmann

Have you installed either ispell, hunspell or aspell yet? Enchant can
use any of them, I think. (I'm on Linux Mint, and I use enchant +
aspell, for what it's worth.) You should be able to install whichever
you choose, plus appropriate dictionaries, using the Debian package
manager (apt? synaptic?). I don't think you need to install from source.

Paul

Thanks all who helped me with the spellchecking.
I do have enchant (Debian bullseye) and in

enchant/which is in ~/.config/enchant$

de_DE.dic de_DE.exc de.dic de.exc en_GB.dic en_GB.exc en_US.dic
en_US.exc

I found the added personal dictionary in en_GB.dic

So, all is well

That is correct,

On my Debian Bullseye system I find:

en.dict
en_AU.dict
en_AU.exe
en_GB.dict
en_GB.exe

And others.

Not all have my added words in them, some of these files are empty.

I think the GB Great Britain and US, USA dicts are when I used a
different language and entered my own words and spellings.

Maybe if you open these files you may find the words and the "in use"
dictionary you seek?

Hope that helps,

Does "But how do I find this one?"  mean, you want to find the the
".dict" text file that includes the added words and its location?

Under windows,  the file is located in the user directory, which is
usually located at:

C:\Users\-username\AppData\Roaming\LyX2.3\

Under Linux, I believe it is also in the folder where all the user and
LyX settings are kept. But  Maybe others can help?

Maybe you can do a quick "where" under Linux to find the file?

Hope I got your question correctly.

Sure see the attached german one.

Round one:
Catches "Deis", correct it to "Dies", next word detected is "eni".

Now I can reproduce it too. It only occurs after one corrected a word.
When ignoring "Deis", "istt" is correctly detected as next misspelled word.

Can you please report this as LyX bug?

The "alternative language" is not for additional languages but for very
specific cases where the dictionary name of the main document language differs
from what LyX expects (such as "deutsch" instead of "german").

Did you set the correct language for your document (or for the respective
passages) in either Document > Settings > Language (main language) or Edit >

If you're using cocoAspell, you should tell LyX to store the personal
dictionary in ~/Library/Spelling/. Thus, go to LyX > Preferences >
Language Settings > Spellchecker, and in the "Personal dictionary"
field enter something like: ~/Library/Spelling/mydictionary

After that it should work.

Normally, the spellchecker should just zork with the F7 key. You may
have however to install aspell dictionaries for the relevant languages
(with names like aspell-fr for French, for example).

Yes, there is an easy way. Mark the Italian text that LyX mistakes
for english. Then use the menu edit->text style (for lyx 1.4.x)
or layout->tex (for lyx 1.3.x and earlier)

You get a dialog box where one of the things you may change
is language. Set it to "Italian" and you'll be fine.

Next time, use this dialog as soon as the language goes wrong,
thereby avoiding lots of text marked with the wrong language.

To be more specific, I have a paper written in English and a PhD
thesis in Italian. I want to copy and paste some stuff (like formulae,
acronyms etc) from one to the other, but what I get in the document is
test underlined, that is LyX keeps the language information with text
so that when I do spellcheck the spellchecker deals with new text as
if it was in the old language. This would not be annoying, except that
LyX keeps the old language if keep writing on the same line of the

Simply install Aspell, but it must be installed to "C:\Aspell".

You need aspell (and a dictionary) installed, and I'm pretty sure it has
to be installed in C:\Aspell. See http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyX136

I'm not sure how to set up spellcheck for windows. It kind of looks
like Ispell is only for Unix. How would I do this?

Download and install aspell from http://aspell.net/win32/ and the dictionary
of your language. It is important to install this in c:\Aspell (see wiki
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyX136)

Then Lyx should do spellchecking fine. If you look under preferences it will
say ispell but it works.

This serves as a perfect example to the bug i am facing too ;)
Going by the same steps. Once the 'aer' is selected, if i dont click on the
right choice 'ear' within a second the word 'aer' is deselected and cursor
comes to the right of 'aer'. However this does not happen with 'tiday'. Here
are the steps.
1. Write the text Youor aer ache tiday?
2. Go to the start of the word and hit F7
3. Replace the first word with 'Your'
4. Sit for some time with the word 'aer' selected , it will get deselected in
a second
5. Click on replace and 'ear' is appended to 'aer'

While on the topic of spellcheck bugs:

Win32 XP pro Qt Lyx

This is a small annoyance with the spell checker:
>
> Please provide an exact set of steps to reproduce the problem
>

Open a new file and enter four mistyped words that will give more than
one possible alternative. I'm using an English library so I've typed

"Youor aer ache tiday?"

Place cursor in front of "youor" and start the spellchecker

The first word is correctly found and can be replaced
However, the second word at the top of the list is "ear". You cannot now
click on this and replace directly. You need to click on any other in
the list and then click back on "ear" to get it to be placed into the
replace window.
And so on with the next wrong word etc.

Sorry for lengthy route - Its far easier and quicker to see this
happening in Lyx than to try and describe it.

Can anyone else confirm this?
