Actually, tha'ts' normal. when you eject a dmg via the finder it remains in
the disk utility for some unknown reason. What I do is just cmd e on the thing
in diskutility or failing that I try and hit delete. this has been an issue
since I believe the snow kiddy, how ever I was fairly new to
Pressing delete, as well as hitting command+E neither works. In the menu
bar, delete, and eject both are grayed out.

I think this has been an issue since mavericks as mine used to take 30 seconds,

I've got a regular polli-carbon macbook, and though I do have the issue,

I think you might have answered your own problem earlier regarding the disk
immage in disk utility.
For whatever reason those immages are being mounted during boot up.
You might call Apple Care notifying of the disk utility issue.
