Hello Margaret,

Have you tried Tim Sniffen’s free iBook, "Mastering the Macintosh with
VoiceOver”? A lot of people have found it very useful and it covers using Pages.

Cheers,

To use styles you need to do that through the formatter. People keep asking me
to do either a written or audio guide on how to use pages. I'm thinking of
doing both, but it will take time.

To access the templets after you create a new document is not possible. but you
can save your new document as a templet if you customized it. Do this through
file then templets.

Take cre.

Frustration with iTunes

2014-03-01 Thread Margaret Booth
I’m having some frustration with iTunes and I’m hoping someone on the list can
help me. I have a Mac Book Pro and I'm using Mavericks and the latest iTunes.
I have a few questions.

I want to delete all of my music out of iTunes because I want to start all over
again. The reason for this is that I have multiple occurences of songs and I
have started deleting them but it is taking ages. How do I delete all of the
music out of iTunes.

Next question is I want to add my music to iTunes by using my external hard
drive. I know how to add my external hard drive through the advance tab and
once I’ve done this do I have to go to file and then go to add to library or
library sub menu and in this menu which option do I choose?

The last question I have is once I’ve added all my new music to iTunes how do I
put the music onto my iPHone 5. I know once my iPhone is showing up in iTunes
and I select my iPHone, then select music after this I can’t work out how to
pick the music I want to add to my iPhone. Can someone please help me.

Thanks for anyones help that they can give me.

2014-02-06 Thread Margaret Booth
Can someone please help me to work out where I’m going wrong in adding my music
to my iPhone 5 through iTunes on my mac book pro and I have Mavericks on my mac

and selected it. Then I went to music and selected it and moved to vertical
splitter and open it. Then I went to the album table and selected the albums
that I wanted on my iPhone. Closed the table and closed the vertical splitter
and then press applied and then done but a message came up saying that all my
music won’t fit on my iPhone. the message was talking about all my music. I
don’t want all my music on my iPhone I only want selected albums. or music

 Hi all,
I'm trying to drag and drop a document from one folder to another. I can
mark the item for drag and drop. But then when I tell it where to drag it
to, VO workds for a minute or two, then says the item failed to drag. What
might the problem be? Is there something different I could try? I'm sure
this is operator error at some level, as I am relatively new to VO on the
mac. :). Any help is appreciated.
 Thanks,
 T.J.

RE: Maxamising windows in text edit

2012-02-16 Thread Margaret Booth
I'm trying to make the text edit larger so The sighted person who is working
with me can see what I am doing in Text edit. That's why I'm asking the
question.
Where do you find the window menu so I can zoom it up?

Subject: Re: Maxamising windows in text edit

I'm not sure what you mean by maximize the window. What are you
trying to accomplish?
If you want text edit to be the only item vissible on the screen,
then use hide others (in the text edit menu, usually command-shift-h)
This should move all other running applications out of the viewing
area, leaving just text edit in the foreground. I'm told this
doesn't always work, but when it does, it frees the screen of
clutter, making it easier for sighted folks to help you find things
on the screen.
If you're trying to make the window as large as possible, then use
the zoom option it's available under the window menu, though it
doesn't have a keystroke tied to it by default, though if it's
something you use regularly, you can assign one of your choosing to
it via the keyboard shortcuts panel in preferences. There's no exact
windows equivalent of maximize the window, so that it takes up the
whole screen, because even the zoom option only makes the window a
little larger, but from what I've been told, it still doesn't cover
the entire viewing area, though it does make things a bit larger for
those who can't see it clearly, or if you have a bunch of windows
open, and your sighted helper can't tell which one you're on, it does
serve to point out where you are.
Especially if you have a lot of windows open, it can be difficult to
pinpoint which one you're currently using sometimes.

go to the lcd section and hit show next view until you get to the name of
the track view. then go to current song button and hit it and you will be
placed there. I've used this many times on a 70 track playlist while I'm on
air.

Take care,

RE: Help with Ical

Thanks for your help on ical. I have followed your suggestions and I now am

Hello Margaret,
I am running the latest version of Mac OS 10.7 (Lion). I have set iCal up to
only have a single calendar and have checked the box saying "show event
times" in calendar preferences. I use the view by month. I can use the Tab
key to move forwards through calendar entries in chronological order and
Shift+Tab to move backwards in chronological order (that only works
correctly if you only have a single calendar). I avoid all day events as
these are shown out of sequence using the tab key. Instead I show the all
day event as starting at 07:00 and ending at 23:00. I also avoid having a
separate birthdays calendar for the same reason. At the end of the month I
press command+right_arrow to got to the next month.

The easiest way to add an iCal event is to press command+n to create a new
event and then type something like

Dinner with Ken 23 February 19:30 to 23:30

and then press Enter. This will bring up a short dialogue with one line
titled "event details" and a line "delete" and a line "done". If its just a
simple one off event just move the Vo cursor to the "done" button and press
that button. If its complicated like a repeating event interact with "event
details" and enter the repeat pattern. then stop interacting with "event
details" and press the "done" button as above.

iCal works very nicely for me this way and is very easy to use. I have
several complicated repeating events like one which alternates between the
second tuesday of one month and the second Wednesday of the next month. I
can tell you how to do this if it is not obvious. I use iCloud to replicate
with the calendar on my iPhone. On my iPhone I use the list view which then
shows the events in chronological order.

Hope this helps. Please get back to me if you need more.
Best wishes

RE: Apple Mail on a Mac Concerning Message List

2012-01-30 Thread Margaret Booth
Another way of moving from an email that you are on in the message table to
read it is pressing VO J (control options J). Then you can use your
navigation keys to read the email. Then press VO J to go back to the message
table. Another hint is to go to the top of all of the emails is pressing
shift, function, VO left arrow and to go to the bottom of the emails is to
press shift function VO right arrow.
To create a new email press command N and then fill out the fields. To move
through the fields I press VO right arrow and once you have finished the
email press shift command D and this will send the email.

Subject: Re: Apple Mail on a Mac Concerning Message List

Hi,
Please know that I am very new to using my Mac and mail on it. But, here's
what I am doing to read my mail.

I open the mail program and simply use the arrow keys to move through the
mailboxes (actually, I often use a letter key to skip directly to a mailbox
pressing the letter that is the first letter in that box's name).
I also use just the arrow keys to move up and down the list of messages,
hitting return to open a message.
I use delete to delete a message either before or after opening it.

The only time that I am using the VO keys to navigate within mail is to move
left or right from column to column (from mailbox to the list of messages in
it, for example). In that case, I use VO plus either right or left arrow.

Using this method, I'm able to hear the indication of unread, you replied to
this message, etc. for each message in the list for a mailbox.

I tried out this method inspired by the advice of a friend who suggested
that sometimes using Apple keyboard commands is easier than using specific
VO commands.

I hope that this is helpful, but I look forward to hearing from others who
know more than I do about this. :-)

One thing that I have wondered is if there is a quick way to go from the
bottom of a list of messages back up to the top?

Thanks,
Laurie M. (and, thank you, list owners, for this great list)

now that Mail marks the currently select message as read even before we Jump

I hope you can be patient with me because some of the areas on my Mac book

I followed your instructions right through to opening utilities, went to
commander then went to the tab after the table which is add. I pressed VO

went to command menu and I pressed VO spacebar. Then went down to web
submenu but I couldn't find anything about DOM or group here all it said
when I pressed VO spacebar on web submenu was find next auto web site. I'm
probably doing something wrong. Can you set me straight and tell me what to

go to the commander in vo utility and go to keyboard commander tab. Now go

is the website submenu. then choose the dom and group thing.

Hello Margaret,

In Lion, the Save As command has gone. You have to use the Duplicate command
which creates a copy of the file with the word Copy appended to the
filename. You can then change the filename in the Finder.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Mark,

To remove addresses that are automatically filled in when sending a message.
go to the "Window" menu. You'll find a menu option called "Previous
Recipients".

You can remove them from there. This should not affect the names and
addresses in your address book.

go to the favorites tool bar and click show list of folders. Now it should
look like your mail. You can now hit vo j to jump between folder and message
list. Once you're in the message list you can tab between message content
and message list. In message content you can jump between messages with left
and right arrow. I can do everything with 1 hand in the new modern view and
love it.
