Sounds like it might be a print quality setting. In Word XP you go to the
File-Print menu, which pops up the print dialog. Then click the Options
button in that dialog and one of the checkboxes will be Draft Output. That's
useful if you are in fact wanting to print out a quick draft, and it

Thanks, Rex.
I wish it were that simple. I sholud have mentioned that I have tried
different print resolutions, from 300 DPI X 600 DPI up to 1200 DPI
Highest quality. There is a slight improvement at the highest levels,

I am new to the world of OS X. My printer is a Lexmark Z52, which I

Thanks!

Try this:
Open the document using TextEdit (assuming you are running Panther?)
then print using mid to high quality and see if it improves.
Oddly enough you might find that some application/hardware combinations
do not print as well as the freebie Apple ones do (for example, Preview

Hmm, is this one of the older Blue and White G3s?
If so, that could the problem. To run OS-X on this machine, you really
need to have it on the top partition and that partition needs to be no
bigger than 7.99 GB. (You normally would just keep the Apple stock apps

p.s. Hey Lee, how is the battery holding up in the BlueTooth mouse?
It's still going strong. I expect it to last at least for months.

Do you have Default folder installed? I had an old version and it created
some of this same behavior with apps quitting on me. Upgrade to the newest,
1.9.1, I think.

My husband's ibook locked up, and when we restarted we get the blinking
question mark. We have tried starting up from the CD (running 10.3),
but it does not seem to recognize any startup disk. I have tried the
10.0 CD, the 10.1 CD, and the 9.2 CD. I found on Apple how to hold down

I rebooted and immediately held down the option key. I get a circular
arrow icon and a straight arrow icon. No CD.

The 10.3 installation CD? I tried all three of them, plus my 10.1
installation disk and my 9.2 installation disk. Are any of them
bootable disks? I am thinking more along the lines that the computer
just will not read any startup disk, internal or CD. What do you think?
