Simon,
I am good now but still need to resolve issues later on. Will post
again if need be.

Hi,
Did it give you an error that you can relay? A few things to note. From the
external startup drive, make sure that the "Ignore Ownership" checkbox in the
"Get Info" window for your mac is checked. This will allow you to make
modifications to the Mac even though permissions may say
Just tried after Booting from an external drive. I was able to
access the internal drive but the removal task did not work. I will give
it another go later. How do you navigate in Terminal? I want to look at
the list of files more closely. Thanks Tim!

Hi,
Thanks Jonathan, and I can confirm that you'll need to use the second method.
Starting up from a external source is necessary unless you have root privileges
on the given machine. Single User mode gives you those root privileges by
default, but it is less than accessible.
Best.

Quick minor correction here, I believe that the files starting with a period
are not listed when using the ls command, unless you specify the dash a option.
So I believe the command should be ls -a /var/db
take care,

Hi ET,
Do you already have admin rights on the machine?
Single usermode unless this has changed since el cap doesn't work well for
access other than a magnifier
If you have admin rights already you could create one through the usual way of
users and groups,
Or possibly through the
Ahh that looks good as I still have the last OS on an external
drive. Will keep you posted.

Hi,
Try this:
• Restart your Mac into Recovery mode.
• Go up to the Menubar, to Utilities and down to Terminal.
• In Terminal enter "ls /var/db" then press return.
• Navigate through the resulting list and see if there is an item named
".AppleSetupDone".
• if there is, then our job is to remove
Ever done clean installs? I installed HS soon after its release.
Google will bring up this issue in the first couple months after release.
I wish I could confirm for a fact I either had the admin account
then or not. I do not now, just my normal user account. Simon, time for
you to show
Really! I have had two accounts on my MacOS X systems one regular and one admin
since before there was VoiceOver available. Certainly when I did my upgrades my
standard account stayed standard and my admin account stayed admin. In Sierra
and Earlier it was impossible to finish an install unless
No I did not realize I had no admin account. Until now I had no need
for it. Evidently this was a common problem when HS was first released.

Is the current admin account not working on your system? If you lost the
password for the admin account on your computer you might be able to use
password recovery tools in the recovery partition, but I have never been very
successful with this.
Or do you need “super root” privileges to get
