Re: Silent "T" in Yosemite

2016-02-17 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Bill,

This is a well-known bug in Yosemite. Just switch to a different voice for a
while and it should go away. It can happen with any letter, by the way.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Record your iPad or iPhone screen

2016-02-17 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Not that this is only for newish iOS devices, not the ones using the
32-pin USB cable. I still have an iPhone 4s I use for testing and it's a
big pain to record the screen and audio from there but it is possible
with a bunch of external hardware.

Then, press the button to record at maximum volume, as now, voiceOver will go
out from your headset if it it is connected to your mac, or through your mac
speakers. In that way, you can control what you are doing, and the sound of
VoiceOver, music or anything the comes from your iOs device, will also be
recorded.

Pros the button to start recording, do what ever you wish in your iOS device

This was quick, but I hope it helps.

To be quite honest, the account I located was unlike any I've seen

Please know that I, on behalf of Cara, am paying close attention

For the record, the malicious string shut down my speech

Frustrated with Apple Pay

2016-02-17 Thread Sarai Bucciarelli
Hi guys:
I have a new iphone 6s. I bought it for Apple pay. I cannot get it to work! I
went to Sprouts, and Petco, who have apple pay. I held my phone up to the
reader. Phone vibrated, and brought up my credit card. I touched the finger id.
nothing happened! I cannot figure it out!

Silent "T" in Yosemite

2016-02-17 Thread Bill Gallik
Good Evening to All on the Macvionaries List

I’m not at all certain what changes I may have made, but when typing on my Mac
Mini neither the lower nor upper case “T” is spoken. I’m certain this is a
relatively recent development because I’m sure I’d have noticed it much earlier
than just last week.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Kindly “Thank You” to anyone offering suggestions!

Thanks Erik!
This has been fixed in the Canary channel of Chrome, so should be available
in Stable Production at some point soonish.
It's possible to have Chrome Canary installed along side stable production

Re: Record your iPad or iPhone screen

2016-02-17 Thread Daniela Rubio
Hi!

Just go to make ew video, then, before pressing start recording, go to the pup
up to select the input devices. And in your Camera and microphone, select your
iPad or iPhone, which most be connected.
.
Then, press the button to record at maximum volume, as now, voiceOver will go
out from your headset if it it is connected to your mac, or through your mac
speakers. In that way, you can control what you are doing, and the sound of
VoiceOver, music or anything the comes from your iOs device, will also be
recorded.

Pros the button to start recording, do what ever you wish in your iOS device
and then stop it.

This was quick, but I hope it helps.

Best

Re: Record your iPad or iPhone screen

2016-02-17 Thread Alex Hall
It's pretty simple, and I really should record how sometime. Until then:

1. Open QuickTime with your iOS device connected.
2. Go to File > New > Screen Recording (I'm going off memory, but the text
should be similar to that at least).
3. From the options for camera/microphone, choose your iOS device.
4. Start recording. Remember to leave the volume up using the slider in the
record options, or you won't hear your iOS device. If you want to record to
something like Audio Hijack, just capture QuickTime's audio.

Re: Interesting reading for Mac and 5.1

2016-02-17 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
I've done it both ways. At home I have a mac mini which is our family
entertainment hub hooked to an old TV for video and a single optical
cable to my 5.1 surround amp/speakers for audio. Simple and has just
worked for years. For a larger setup I have a mini and an external box
which takes the optical in and has 6 RCA jacks for discrete audio output
which I then run to a Mackie mixer and then six separate amps. The mixer
lets me mix down to just stereo if need be or do the full 5.1 if the
other speakers are hooked up. I set that up a few years ago and I think
it was this box that did the digital to discrete analog conversion:

Does your USB sound also have component? If so, what is the model. I need to
replace mine.

There are alot of apple adaptors now that allow you to do all sorts of things I
have a thunderbolt to hdmi adaptor which gives surround sound.
I also have a USB sound card (External) that allows me to get 5.1 sound through
the usb on any computer plus it has optical out So it can be done a number of
ways.

I hadn’t thought about that. I just have used the Apple TV and an optical out
but never tried to do 5.1 right out of the Mac.

Here’s another question, what if I want to play back with non Dolby? Say I
want to use DTS? That’s one of the disadvantages of using digital downloadable
content, you don’t get the alternate sound encoding or do you? I’ve not seen
it ever mentioned. I prefer the sound of DTS not sure if others agree.

I don’t have 5.1 myself, but this article seems a bit misleading when it says,
for instance, that DVD playback using DVD player or iTunes Store movies don’t
support 5.1. Of course both do, but you need a software decoder, such as that
in VLC, to get surround from this analog setup. Apple’s software uses Dolby
Digital (AC3) passthrough, when it’s available. So, in other words, you can
still enjoy 5.1 with your home theatre, just in more limited ways.

This page, and the one to which it is linked, is full of fascinating insights:

Assuming the drive is already available on the Mac, go to Finder and hit
cmd-shift-c. You should see it in the resulting list. If not, hit cmd-k (if I
recall right) to connect to the drive.

Ultralingua dictionary, slightly off topic

2016-02-17 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

I've been using Ultralingua dictionary on the mac platform for a long time, and
it's quite accessible. I've been asked by a newly visually impaired person to
help them with the same Ultralingua dictionary but with the Windows version.
I've no experience of it on Windows, so I thought I'd ask you, friends, whether
anybody has been using Ultralingua dictionaries from Ultralingua.com on Windows
with Jaws. If yes, and if you would like to lend a hand, please email me off
list.

Many thanks

Andrew

Windows 7 to a network drive then to my mac

2016-02-17 Thread Tony
Hi all,

I just got a Windows 7 disk that I purchased from amazon. I want to install
it on my macbook pro, but it has no disk drive. Would I be able to copy the
disk from a windows laptop to a network drive then install Windows 7 off of
the network drive to my macbook using VM Fusion? Also, is there a way to do
the Windows installation without sighted assistance? Is voiceover involved,
or can I activate narrator to assist me?

I'm really looking forward to getting this done. Thanks for any help.

Re: Numbers Has Gone Backwards with VoiceOVer

2016-02-17 Thread Phil Halton
No other suggestions I'm afraid Brian. As I said, I use this app daily and I
have no problems whatsoever. The only thing Apple screwed up in the last
version was that now, when arrowing up and down through a table, voiceover
reads the row number in addition to the cell number which gets awfully verbose.
But, I've learned to live with it. Good luck it sounds like some kind of

2016-02-17 Thread Jessica Moss
Ok, I was under the impression that the unopened messages had those strings of
characters attached to them, and that was what caused them. That was what
started it on my end anyhow.
The first one I got had one, and I thought voiceover was studdring when it
crashed, but it was simply trying to read whatever that mess was in the first
place.

You see there’s an ass on the list, who has figured out a string of text

shut down. It’s real cute. I hope he reaps what he’s sown.

 Hope this helps,

Hello,

Yes it is a part of OS X and IOS current versions. Not sure how long they’ve
been there just look under keyboard preferences in OS x preferences, keyboard
and on the text tab. For IOS in Settings, general, keyboard and the text
expansion button.

Is there an app that has predefined routines?
A common method is to not type vowel letters for example.

Re: Txt expansion

2016-02-17 Thread Caitlyn Furness
I have trouble with the text expansion “sticking”. I set up one, for example,
to expand into my email address. Lots of times, it just remains as the three
letters and doesn’t expand into what it’s supposed to.

Have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Caitlyn

okay, so here goes, if you look at the mails that is eventually
shooting VO down, there is no strange letters in the subject, we are 4
different persons who is trying to fix this into a update so it don't
happen again, but is hard too duplicate.
Could someone be so kind as to send me a private email with the letters?
Stopping it from happening is easy enough, but making it crash is hard,

In VoiceOver utility, under speech category, set all your voices to Alex and
Alex to be your default voice. It seems as if somehow the announcements are
made by a different voice rather than default.

hope this helps.

To be quite honest, the account I located was unlike any I've seen in any
groups. So, it is possible, more messages will come through but I think I
located the right address. Only time will tell.

Please know that I, on behalf of Cara, am paying close attention and am
doing all I can to rid the list of such nuisances.

For the record, the malicious string shut down my speech synthesizer, as
well. Very, very annoying. Like others in this groups, I had to use my
Windows computer with a non-mac screen reader to discover the source of the
 problem.

Please know that we are in this together and, together, we'll get through
 it.
