Re: Quickly Switch between Group and Dom Navigation?

2020-01-05 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

The best way to do this is to set up a shortcut in Keyboard Commander of VO
Utility. I've set mine up with right option g as my key commander command.
So, I just hold down the right option key with the letter g to toggle it
between the two modes.

Re: Streeming Videos from Iphone to Mac, can we?

2020-01-05 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Yes. Connect your iPhone to your Mac with the USB charging cable. On your
Mac, open QuickTime from the Applications folder. Cancel the Open dialog.
From the File menu, select "New Movie Recording". Select your iPhone from the
source menu and make sure that the input volume is not muted. Start the movie
on your iPhone and it will display on the Mac. This is doable from iPad as
well.

Re: downloading Amazon music

2020-01-05 Thread Lorie McCloud
well, I never gave up on Amazon music mostly because I've been buying music
from them for 20 years. I think it really helped to have an activity set so
that when I go to Amazon and a couple of other sites the mouse cursor ignores
the vo cursor. I set that after we discussed it a couple weeks ago. I launched
my music library, searched for the album I wanted under the artist's name,
checked the box for each song on it and then I turned on quicknav, set it to
form controls and just kept arrowing down till I hit "download". I had never
seen this before. when I clicked it I had to authorize this computer which I
thought I had already done but right after that it started coming down. it came
as a zip file into my downloads folder.

it remembers your place unless it has an issue where you had to shut it down,
also if you suspend the editer you have to remember and press a cursor routing
button or it will go back a bit, but if you close a file and open it again your
place is kept. I couldn’t deal with that either. the HTCom software is crap to
be blunt. what I do is contract my braille, connect it, and it acts like a
storage device and I copy it over. the editer is okay, but I never use it
honestly. for reading once you get files on it’s great. you can open several
files at once and switch easily between them. it’s also easy to switch
bluetooth devices. just think of HTCom as unuseable because it is for mac. even
on my husband’s windows machine it’s not the greatest. He said it’s like
software from the 80’s to early 90’s! that’s actually what I wrote them about
having better ways of getting files on the device and on board translation.

Re: Using a Focus braille display with Mac and IOS?

2020-01-05 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hi There.

I am just trying to write with my focus but when I press the letters on my
braille display it goes out of the mail program. So what am I doing wrong as I
wanted to write with contracted braille using the braille display.

Also are there any podcasts on how to use the focus with the Mac OS? I can use
the braille display with windows by controling the machine even though it’s a
virtual machine with my Focus but can’t do the same with the Mac. I wish I
could.

Kawal.

Re: Using a Focus braille display with Mac and IOS?

2020-01-05 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
When you say the software, I assume you're referring to that transfer app
HTCom? What is the Notepad/book reader/word processor like? I demoed one of
their displays many years ago, and one thing I didn't like was that it didn't
save your place in a file. Every time you re-opened a file, you were placed at
the beginning. Since I use my display a lot for reading books, I found that
very annoying.
Cheers,
Donna

2020-01-05 Thread alia robinson
well, hims is selling their displays for now, and hims customer service hasn’t
been great historically, but when I asked a question last week I got a reply in
two days, and that was right on new year’s eve when I asked, so I was
impressed. I worry about any company for the blind or visually impaired if I’m
honest. so many are moving to phones using speech and abandoning specialized
equipment. I would be concerned yes, but the display is outstanding, imo the
hardware is better than vario. I had to send my VU in twice for issues, but not
the actilino. the actilino also uses an off the shelf battery, so if like my vu
did the battery goes you can just buy a 7 dollar battery from amazon and
replace it yourself. I also had to write handitech, or helptech or whatever
they are now directly once, requesting better software, just ideas for
improvements, and had someone reply to me twice within an hour. I am not going
to tell you not to worry at all that they’ll be around, but if it was me I
would still buy one. as I said the software is awful, but the hardware is
incredible.

Thanks, Maurice and ET. Of course I do realize that everyone's mileage will
vary depending on usage, but it helps to have at least a general idea. The VU
battery drains fairly quickly, so I'm hoping for better battery life in its
replacement.

Re: Using a Focus braille display with Mac and IOS?

2020-01-05 Thread maurice
Hi, to answer your questions, the estimated battery life for the bogus
14 generation blue is roughly 15 hours. I believe the same is true for
the focus 40.

Please bear in mind however that your battery life will vary depending
on usage when it’s on battery. If you’re using it happily say using
it with two different devices. I would cut that 15 hour estimate down to
something between eight and 10 hours. In other words if you’re out and
about and you know you’re going to say a meeting, or class or
something that’s gonna take a while and you do not absolutely need to
use the display. I would certainly advise turning it off for a while in
order to ensure that you can get through your day. The other thing is
that battery life can decrease if you’re using the scratchpad as well.

I hope my comments above will help. Just to let you know I do not work
for freedom scientific, or Apple or any entity that has a stake in my
answer. I also want to make it clear that the instruments of battery
usage are based on what I have experienced not what’s in the manual.

Re: Using a Focus braille display with Mac and IOS?

2020-01-05 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Thanks, all. One question, how long is the battery life? Oddly enough, FS
doesn't seem to put that on their website.
TIA,
Donna

Re: Using a Focus braille display with Mac and IOS?

2020-01-05 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hi Donna.

I like the Focus with the IOS devices. I have two of these, the 14 5th Gen and
the 40 which I use with my Computer.. I use the 40 Focus with Windows as well
but the braille on the Mac still has a lot of strange dots but I am not
familiar how to use it with the Mac as yet because I don’t like the dots when
things are underlined or bolded on the Mac. I prefer the IOS experience.

I didn't keep the Active Braille long enough, didn't want to become
attached to it them lose it. It is a very impressive device and I liked
the ergonomic display.

Think you are right about FS. HIMS, from past experience, well, I
don't know how it stands now. I've had the Focus I think about a year
and a half. It can be paired to 5 devices.

fixed—which may not be possible—or get a new braille display. Since I don’t
have $6000 to shell out for an ActiveBraille, I’m thinking about the Focus. I
would love to hear from anyone currently using the Focus with Mac and IOS. What
are the pluses? And the minuses?
Thanks,
Donna

Re: iClever bluetooth keyboard

2020-01-05 Thread Erik Burggraaf
Oit definitely connects to one or more devices and allows you to switch
back and forth between them. You would have to consult the manual though to
find out about the device connectivity. I am pretty sure it will only
connect to one device of a type at any given time. For example, if you have
an iPhone and an iPad, those are both Apple devices, and will not share the
Apple setting. If you have an iPhone and a Galaxy tablet, one gets the
Android setting and one gets the Apple setting and you could switch back
and forth between the two of them. I think that's how it works, but don't
quote me.

Hey ET,

On my Logitech SlimCombo, it is Control left arrow to go to top of screen. On
the home screen, pressing CTRL-right Arrow once takes you to the dock, and
pressing it again takes you to Suggestions. On other screens, I think pressing
it once just takes you to bottom of screen, but I'd have to confirm that, and
I'm on my Mac right now, not my iPad.
HTH,
Donna

Try to go to the menu extra, find the dropbox icon and vo+spacebar on it. You
should here a sound and have a look there for various options. Dropbox has
changed recently and is more difficult for me to configure. I’ve already
reported it to Dropbox team.
