iPhone, iPad and Mac all on latest OS. I reset my Apple ID password
and had to set this up again. I am not seeing all the texts on the Mac.
What might prevent some from not showing? Does it matter if some
predated when I got the Mac set up?

glad you got some use out of it. I haven’t found a way to speed videos up on
IOS, though i did find Speedeo (i have not tested for accessibility) and it
apparently will let you increase the speed of YT videos on IOS to 2X.

Re: Article: Apple on target for October MacBook Release

2016-10-21 Thread Scott Granados
I would be interested, googling hasn’t yielded much on the overclocking subject.

I know about the airplane thing. I flew commercial for the first time a few
months back and I thought the flight attendant was nuts wanting us to turn off
our devices on landing and takeoff. Nobody pays attention to that on private
flights and some international flights. I’ll never do that again just to stay
away from the crying babies let alone the better electronics policy and faster
Internet.. Hell the pilot we worked with used to do all his flight planning on
an iPad and never shut the internet off on me just because we were landing.:)

Re: Downloading voices in Sierra

2016-10-21 Thread Scott Granados
That’s so subjective, everyone has a different ear. I’m an Alex man myself but
you have many of the other voices available like the English high quality
voices including UK and Australian versions. The Tom voice isn’t bad, it
sounds like you’re at the airport, the automated voice with the announcements.

Others probably have a very different answer. I do wish you could add
Eloquence, maybe you can but I’ve never tried to add any voices outside the
ones included in the Voiceover selection.

gigs. I believe the two phones were selected because their hardware was
similarly configured and the number of pixels on the screen were the same. Both
were run in 1080P so no one phone was unfairly taxed on the graphics side.

I’m sure we can find a test matchup with the devices you mention though.

Re: Speed test comparison between Google Pixel and iPhone 7+

2016-10-21 Thread Mary Otten
I wonder what the difference might have been had they used an iPhone 7 and set
up a plus against the pixel. It has less ram. Would that of made any
difference? Same chip, so maybe not. It seems like four things that matter to
us, that is not games, they're pretty close. The pixel even did a little better
and somethings. So if you're not doing heavy lifting like games, or other
things that really tax the chip, it may be a draw or close to one.

Re: Article: Apple on target for October MacBook Release

2016-10-21 Thread Scott Granados
Hi Kevin,

I wonder about the light bar as well. I expect Apple will have a work around
for voice over for us, we’ll have to see I am curious how they will pull that
off.

Imagine no power port, I hope for the extra ram as well. More space from fewer
ports hopefully will be put to good use.

Speed test comparison between Google Pixel and iPhone 7+

2016-10-21 Thread Scott Granados
Thought some might find this interesting, especially since Apple wins.

Well, some of you can probably guess how this turns out since I’m posting.:)

Here’s an interesting speed test that shows the difference in performance
between the flagship iPhone 7+ and a Pixel. A Pixel was used to insure the
resolutions were as close as possible and to not favor one over the other by
the number of pixels (graphics elements) being generated. On simple
applications the Pixel does well. Things like the calculator and twitter are
very close and sometimes favor the Pixel. On Bench marks, the Pixel isn’t even
in the game. The iPhone crushes the pixel so score one for the A10 over the
Snapdragon. On more complex applications like gaming there’s no contest, the
iPhone smokes the Pixel. Both single core and multicore performance on the
pixel pales in comparison to the iPhone 7+. I’d have liked to have seen more
network tests because I think the Pixel would win but this video doesn’t
contain much in that area. The Pixel is starting to find it’s way and be a
competitor to Apple but it’s not there yet, especially on complex tasks. At
least on simple applications it’s not a blood bath like previous years but the
heavy lifting is still got a long way to go for Google. This plays along with
what I’ve been saying about the inferior Snapdragon processors and other
companies doing more exciting things with mobile processors like Samsung,
several Chinese manufacturers and of course Apple.

3. Hope they'll have 32GB or 64GB ram options for MacBook. this MBP with
16B RAM is a huge boost over MBA 8GB RAM--I wish I made the jump years ago.
4. lightning to 3.5mm adapter is ~1" in between either end, but I've only
used it a couple of times the first day to see how it worked, but I've
never used it since then.
5. I've mostly used the lightning EarPods or Bluetooth headset, but look

Shame it’s summer here almost, could do with heating in the winter.

Cheers, will keep an eye on it,
It’s not what I’m use to on my phone.

Hi Simon, I haven’t had the locking up problem but yes, when the phone is
charging it will warm. It won’t go all Samsung on you don’t worry but when
it’s charging it warms. Once charged it cools and returns to normal
temperature unless you’re running something processor intensive which will
cause the phone to heat a bit. You also get heat during intensive functions
like software upgrade.

The adapter definitely gets warm and the phone for me stays warm up until about
85% charge during the charge cycle when the charger backs off and trickles the
rest of the way to 100%.

Re: charging iPhone 7+ issues

2016-10-21 Thread Scott Granados
Hi Simon, I haven’t had the locking up problem but yes, when the phone is
charging it will warm. It won’t go all Samsung on you don’t worry but when
it’s charging it warms. Once charged it cools and returns to normal
temperature unless you’re running something processor intensive which will
cause the phone to heat a bit. You also get heat during intensive functions
like software upgrade.

  Hi List,

I just received my iPhone 7+ 2 days ago and used the battery upp completely
before charging it last night.

Now when I got up this morning and unplugged it from ac power the phone felt
very warm and I could not unlock it with the pin code or get it to turn vo off
/ on

I started getting a bit concerned that things might be wrong but finally foud
the instructions on how to reboot the iPhone 7 range, power and volume down,

This seemed to correct issues I was having with pin input and fingerprint
scanning

The charging seemed to really screw up the input.

H has anyone else noticed this sort of behaviour with their phones
especially the device heating up when charging

Warm enough for me to feel it through the leather wallet case it was in, I
never felt this with my 6s+ or previous 6 etc.

  Cheers for any info.

Re: charging iPhone 7+ issues

2016-10-21 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Simon,
No, I can't say that I have experienced any of the things you mentioned. It may
get slightly warm when charging, although I don't think it's anything more than
any other phone that I have had. I have the Apple leather case for mine, so the
front is open. And I really don't think it gets substantially warm. And the
other stuff you mentioned I also haven't seen.

RE: Apple Guides for Installing New MacOS

2016-10-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Bill,

I'll just say that if you manage to stuff up an apple os install,
Can you let me know as I'd like to know how you did it.

The most important thing is to make sure you have mains power connected to
your mac machine when you do the install,
Then you should have no chance of stuffing anything up.

It is once you know how to do it, a very simple and straight forward task,

“Thank you” to both Dolores and Phil for your helpful responses.

My plan is to execute a “clean install” and since I’ve never installed a MacOS
before I want to procede with all due caution!

RE: Apple Guides for Installing New MacOS

Hi

What is it your wishing to know?

I don't know of documents but I can give you pretty good steps on how to do it.

Apple have one if not the best installation setup for any OS I've used.
And it's accessible all bar the very first step depending on how you wish to do
it.

Good Morning All;

I’ve been searching AppleVis.com for guides/documentation for installing a new
OS (e.g., Sierra in this case) but have been frustrated in my efforts. I’m not
interested in a podcast, I want to read an actual document. Can anybody offer
me a link or other suggestions?

Thanks!

Voice Over eating memory

2016-10-21 Thread Terje Strømberg
Hi,

Voice Over was using 13.8GB memory. I shut down and restarted imac. Thinking
hackers was coming down the voice over pipe line. The fan speed was increasing,
that is the reason for checking with the menu bar stat app.The mac built in
activity monitor confirmed that the menu bar stat info was not an error.
Strange. Now com.apple.speech is back on 157MB and voice over down to 32.2MB.
After a couple of minutes shut down. Think about voice over using nearly 14GB,
increase fan speed over a long period before shut down. Not scared, just
curious about it.

Take care

Re: How To Increase the speed of a youtube video using safari and OS X (Video inside)

2016-10-21 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
I liked the video thanks. I listen to a lot of Youtube when at work to help me
work as it were so how does one pause or set volume up and down if you are
using jaws as I'm always having to tab. I know it's a Mac list but I need to
use windows at work. I know that the Mac handles Youtube stuff just fine after
this video. Also how does one make a video on an I phone or Mac? I don't have
any editing tools. I thought that Apple would have an app already installed on
your phone or your I Mac or Mac computer to handle all this without you having
to buy anything further.

Thanks.

Kawal.

Re: Apple Guides for Installing New MacOS

2016-10-21 Thread Scott Granados
Bill, you’ll find it very easy to do. Have you decided whether you’ll be using
a USB stick to upgrade or will you be using the recovery partition to just
fresh / clean install what’s already on the disk? Both are very easy, one
requires a fresh USB stick but the steps should be straight forward either way.

One of the huge advantages of Apple is a blind user has access to the entire OS
life cycle from initial setup / install to updating and decommissioning.

Good luck.

Re: Some help please

2016-10-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Well, you didn't mention the media player or the exact command you are
using to open it. If you use the "activate" method on a application object
then the application should be placed in the foreground. So, for example if
you are using JavaScript for OSA commands it might look like:
app = application("iTunes")
app..activate())

Using the "open" command in terminal it is possible to force the new
application to not be the foreground application but there is no mention of
forcing it to be in the foreground.

Also, just to be complete the AppleScript version of the commands listed
above would be:
tell application "iTunes" to activate

In terms of your second question, I have not seen this behavior did you
attempt to redirect voiceover output to a different sound device then the
standard sound?

Sounds like a bug to me.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Apple Guides for Installing New MacOS

2016-10-21 Thread Dolores Myers
Hello Bill,

I got brave and decided to install sierra on my own. First of all, you have
to download it from the app store. I then ran the app, which was in my
downloads folder. I followed the on screen instructions, accepting the legal
terms, etc. Once the app was installing, there was a progress indicator that I
was able to check using voice over to see how far along the installation was.
After the installation was complete, it asked me to restart the computer. I
did this and all went perfectly. I couldn’t believe how easy this was, since I
had problems installing El Capitan. I hope it works as easily for you.

Re: Apple Guides for Installing New MacOS

2016-10-21 Thread Phil Halton
I just performed a clean install of Sierra on my MacBook air, and the first
thing I did was to Google, "how to do a clean install of Mac sierra". That
brought up a bunch of how to's, and though they are not full fledge documents,
they do give a step-by-step procedure for backing up, erasing the disk,
reinstalling The operating system and so forth.
It is all really quite straightforward, except for when erasing the hard disk
where you need to be careful to a race only the partition where the Mack OS is
installed. That volume is usually called "Mac HD", And you need to select that
in the table of volumes before executing the erase feature.
If you're not going to do a clean install of Sierra, that is, if you're just
going to install Sierra over the top of the existing OS, then it is even
easier. First you need to download the Sierra OS from the App Store, and when
it downloads it will begin executing the installation for you. Simply follow
the prompts and be patient for it may take a while to install.
If at any point you lose VoiceOver speech, simply do a command at five to turn
it back on. Sent from my IPhone

Hello, what you have to do, is go to Safari preferences, going to security I
think it is, and find the settings for plug-ins. Then, you have to find a
checkbox for flash, and check it. Then, there will be a pop up, where you have
to choose to turn it on. Then, just close The window and refresh the page, and
you should be good to go.
I hope this helps,

Re: Status of the send space wizard

2016-10-21 Thread David Griffith

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Yest the Wizard is not the most straightforward of apps but is usable.

Basically I find that using a double virtual mouse click will enable me
to enter any of the Folders in the remote view. That is Shift VO space
on the folder twice to produce a double click.

To navigate back up you need to cursor back up to the top of the folder
until you hear a sort of error sound. Doing a double shift VO Space
here again should enable you to return to the parent folder.

At least this works for me.

The other peculiarity of the Wizard of course is that I find that in
dterms of downloading files it is best to use the multiple files option
, that is hit the download multiple links button and paste in the link
from say an email, even if this is the only link in the email. You can
of course just press command a and command c to copy the whole email
and then paste it into the sendspace wizard.

Hit the multiple files button. Shift tab into the edit area. Press
command V to paste and then nabigate to the OK

Hope that helps

David griffithbutton and start the download.

Hi David,

properly. I am trying to use VO up and down arrow, and even disabling quick Nav

this that I do not know about?
Thanks

no typing echo. From memory I had to try several attempts of pressing tab and
typing in my user name and password before it finally let me in. You can check
a box to prevent having to repeat this though.

Having been logged in I found that by pressing option R I was taken directly to

The changes include an OLED light bar (I assume in place of function

USB-C (I do like this) (Thunderbolt 3 (Apple always has to provide a

because) and the power button has the fingerprint Censor (I like it).
 What do you all think?

RE: Article: Apple on target for October MacBook Release

2016-10-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Scott,

They do still have the apple ear pods to release this month, late October as
it says on the website, possibly the event next week is the release of the pods?

Personally I can't wait to see what they're like,
They do soud chunky but that's not the same as seeing what they really are
like.

I just hope they aren't sounding like beets headphones
