It depends if you have HDMI control messages enabled on both the TV and the end device supports it. I can confirm Samsung does this with the Gen 4 Apple TV but not previous versions, Google Chrome Cast works this way as does Comcast, charter and FIOS set top boxes. So it can be hit or miss
