Hi, Simon:

If you're unaccustomed to installing from a file, I can see how this
would be confusing. It's awfully convenient, though, and I'm glad Apple
finally made it available on its OS. As I said, we've been doing this on
Linux forever.

Happy hollidays to you!

Re: Thoughts about Braille displays

2018-12-24 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries

Jonathan,
While I am still working out some aspects of using a braille
display, one thing you can change is the amount of time items like the
rotor shows on the display. Its in the Voiceover settings under the
braille category. Look for "alert display duration". Max is 7 seconds.

So far I have not bothered with spell check until I finish typing.
Then I set the rotor to misspelled words and use space 3 or 6 to find.

You can navigate text by character, word or line. For paragraph you
need to assign a command which I have done.

I set things to 8 dot input and contracted output.

I've assigned some other commands as well which has made things
easier. Still need to spend more time with this.

Re: How do I access applications

2018-12-24 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Just to add to this info. While cmd-shift-a opens the Applications folder when
in the Finder for actual opening of the apps and such, this keyboard shortcut
is not limited to only the Finder, it also works anywhere you use an Open or
Save Dialog as well. The keyboard shortcuts under the Go menu are system wide
shortcuts. So, commands like cmd-shift-d for Desktop, cmd-shift-h for your
Home directory, cmd-shift-a for Applications, cmd-shift-c for Computer and
more, all work in the Finder, and in Open and Save dialogs.

Press Command Shift A which is the shortcut to the apps folder.

Hi,

You go into System Prefs, Time Machine and uncheck the Automatically Backup
checkbox, close System Prefs, then re-open and check it again. The close is
required to properly apply changes.

time Machine controls, choose the recover date then restore the file. Once it

not, you can Get Info on the file and change its permissions.

first I format the USB drive as fat 32. No files on the desk.

Then I go through the Boot Camp process, at which point Boot Camp format the
USB drive. After the system fails and I look at the USB drive, it has a number
of windows files on the desk and it is also labeled with the windows

RE: Having problems with attempting to install windows 10 on my MBP 2014

2018-12-24 Thread Simon Fogarty
And if you don't use bootcamp to remove the attempted install.

You end up with a partition you can't get rid of using BC an Boot camp says it
cant help with the situation.

In my case I've got 2 partitions one with the mac os on it and one which at the
moment I cant do anything with.

Just as well I can reimage and start from scratch.

If your attempt to install using Bootcamp fails, you need to use Bootcamp again
to delete your previous attempt before trying again. You will always get this
kind of error if you simply try to install again without first clearing out
whatever Bootcamp did on the attempt that failed.

Hi Janina,

Yes sorry your right,

I had that issue earlier this year with my new mac book pro.

Confused the hell out of me but it's hard to forget.

Depending on the exact Apple model, you might not need the USB media.
Right around 2014 Apple began supporting installing to Bootcamp directly from
an ISO image--just like we've been doing for years on Linux.

Apple's instructions that include installation directly from the Windows ISO
image are here:

https://support.apple.com/guide/bootcamp-assistant/install-windows-newer-mac-boot-camp-bcmp173b3bf2/mac

Hi Janina ,

Yeah they took it out in either windows 10 or 8.x.

I just go back in to windows sounds and tick the box to use the start up chime.

Even so it doesn't work everytime on my windows machines.

Interesting, Simon. I wasn't aware of that.

Some of us should probably make the same argument with them.

RE: Having problems with attempting to install windows 10 on my MBP 2014

2018-12-24 Thread Simon Fogarty
Ok, so what exactly is the error message your getting and have you whipped and
or formatted the drive as a apple format,I'd suggest if you use the external
set the drive as a mac OS X extended Journeled format.

Then part of the setup for boot camp is the dividing and partitioning which
should sort out the drive size,

And also try selecting the correct partition as there will be possibly 4 one
of which will be the one you asked for and you then need to do a a format of
the required partition don't add or delete partitions just format the one you
have selected as your primary drive.

Hello,
I'm using bootcamp.
I've done all the necessary steps. I even attempted to use a 500 GB usb
external drive as well and still, the disk isn't big enough if the error
message can be believed.
My son and I even ran the system diagnostic tool. the one with D held down
