If you have any questions

Re: dom order

2019-11-17 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Dom order reads HTML documents like Windows screen readers. Group order reads
them more like Macintosh applications, for example in lists when you have group
mode on, you need to interact with the list to see everything inside as
individual items. It also tries to arrange things somewhat like they show up on
screen. Take for example Facebook (and not m.facebook.com
, but the regular site).
Facebook puts each post in an article and then adds a name and description to
that article. In Group mode the article name will be read often something like
Joe Steam posted a picture, then there will be a short delay and the
description gets read which often gives any comments that joe said about the
picture.
If you then interact with the article you can find a like button and reply
button and a list of comments others have put to the post. Or you can just use
the VO next button to get to the next article.
In DOM mode this is all much more like what you would experience on every other
system where everything in the posting gets read unless you go to the next
article or Heading.

I used to find group mode worked very well with the New York Times, at avoiding
the advertisements in the middle of articles. I not sure if this is because the
ads actually appeared to the left of the content, so when I hit vo-down it just
kept reading the main column or if it was something else.
I have often recommended adding a keyboard commander to switch between Group
and DOM mode.
Another irritant in Group mode is when you execute a read all command on a
complex site with several layers VoiceOver will do a constant very annoying
noise as it tries to decode all the layers. I have found this to be
particularly true for “forum” sites.
Best Wishes,
Jonathan Cohn .

Yerah I mentioned this a month or so back and still haven’t found a solution,

As you say it’s working fine with emails even from my watch / phone / computer
everything syncs fine deleting or arriving etc.

But messages don’t want to update sync automatically like you’d think they
would.

prompt. I can’t quite remember now the exact chain of events as I had done it
a long time ago.

Good luck

More on my fan high speed problem.

2019-11-17 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
I really not sure what is going on with my macbook air 2015.
Catalina made it speed up.
Activity manager told me first that VOiceover was the culprit.
But i have reset pram and smc and now Voiceover is not the culprit.

The activity manager gives no idea on what is going on.
Logging out and waiting for several hours does not help.
Maybe its time to buy a new one.
Or i have to live with it.

You think there would be, as if I delete an email on my phone it’s gone from my
Mac and the other way as well. You’d think it would work on the messages ap. I
know someone was asking about this very thing a while ago and can’t remember if
they came up with a solution.

RE: Setting for the Messages App on the Mac

2019-11-17 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Petrus,

I wondered about this as well.

I have the same problem with my iphone and my watch etc.

If I delete a message from my watch it stays on my phone.

And same with iPad and phone etc
There is no sync between the devices.

Now I’ve got this working, there is still something else that isn’t working
correctly and I’m sure it got discussed on this group before. I’m sending and
receiving messages on both devices perfectly but if I delete a message on the
phone it stays on the Mac and if I delete a message on the Mac it stays on the
phone. I haven’t had any luck fixing this.

Petrus,

You need to enable this feature on your iPhone in settings / Messages where you
tick the box to allow your iPhone and mac to send and receive sms message to
non-iPhone users. There may be a need to enter a code on your mac to tether
the two devices so keep your Messages app on the mac open and wait for the
prompt. I can’t quite remember now the exact chain of events as I had done it
a long time ago.

Good luck

I may have to switch to a different email provider because my mails from this
list keep ending up in the spam folder on gmail.. I keep going in and marking
it as “not spam” but google doesn’t seem to be getting the message.

Btw, any suggestions on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

Has she paired it with her mac via Bluetooth in system preferences? Beetle’s
got to be put into pairing mode and then she needs to go to bluetooth in system
preferences. Once she can see Beetle in table of devices, she needs to
interact with the cell that says Beetle where she will find pair button. No
code required.

Or at leat there use to be.

I must admit however that I’ve not used it as I only use my sonos from my
iPhone and iPad.

The ios sonos controller is very easy to use with voiceover.

Is their a Sonos Controller for Mac? I have th e Sonos Controller on my iPhone
XR. I was wondering if I could control my Sonos One Gen 2 from my 2013 iMac
running Catalina.

Re: Setting for the Messages App on the Mac

2019-11-17 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Now I’ve got this working, there is still something else that isn’t working
correctly and I’m sure it got discussed on this group before. I’m sending and
receiving messages on both devices perfectly but if I delete a message on the
phone it stays on the Mac and if I delete a message on the Mac it stays on the
phone. I haven’t had any luck fixing this.

Re: Disabeling Preview in Mac Mail Problems

2019-11-17 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Open mail settings and switching to the viewing pane you can find a “list
preview” popup button where you can change from 0 to 5 the number of lines that
are read when a message is selected. On my system setting this to 0 prevents
this speaking, though personally I do like to be able to hear a bit about the
message. Also, in cases where the mail has both an HTML and text alternative,
this preview tends to read the text alternative so occasionally this preview
allows me to read content that is graphical in nature.
Best Wishes,
Jonathan Cohn

Re: Is there anybody out there?

2019-11-17 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
I actually noticed this happening once I upgraded to iOS 13, but I don’t think
that is the reason but there could have been a lot of maintenance with email
servers around that time. I’m thinking I should sign into gmail web-mail site
and add this list address to the contacts in the webmail site. I just hate
navigating web-mail pages.

Hi folks,
I have collapsed the horizontal slider but still my previews are being read.
Is there another way to disable previews in mail?

I run my own email server, which provides a high degree of control. Obviously,
not everyone has the time or the expertise for this, but it has its advantages

I may have to switch to a different email provider because my mails from this
list keep ending up in the spam folder on gmail.. I keep going in and marking
it as “not spam” but google doesn’t seem to be getting the message.

Btw, any suggestions on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

2019-11-17 Thread Dave Carlson
I use Yahoo mail, and it’s the same for me. They go to my bulk folder on the
Mac. But I set up a smart folder for all unread messages, and I can browse
through them along with others. Then occasionally I visit my bulk folder and
move them all to my MacVisionaries folder. Not the best, but it works.

Hi

If the save as option of the context menu doesn’t work, just open the linked
pdf. Then when the pdf is opened in Safari, place the focus in the addressfield
and push option+return. The pdf file is then saved to downloads.

Re: macbook pro not pairing with smart beetle

2019-11-17 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Has she paired it with her mac via Bluetooth in system preferences? Beetle’s
got to be put into pairing mode and then she needs to go to bluetooth in system
preferences. Once she can see Beetle in table of devices, she needs to
interact with the cell that says Beetle where she will find pair button. No
code required.

Re: Sonos Controller for Mac

2019-11-17 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Angus,

Yes, there’s a mac controller for Sonos, and you can download it from the
support page of Sonos.com. Here’s the link to download it. Unfortunattely,
with Mac controller it is not very accessible. Many buttons are not labelled
although I have labelled them myself using vo+/ labelling dialogue with the
help of a sighted friend. I can control some of the functions but neither
choosing the source nor searching your music library is not accessible. I have
been asking support at sonos to address this but they’ve not been cooperative
thus far.  So please report as well. here is the link;

Download the Mac controller

Re: Setting for the Messages App on the Mac

2019-11-17 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries

Good luck

Setting for the Messages App on the Mac

2019-11-17 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi all,
I suspect I’m missing a setting for my messages App on the Mac somewhere. I’
only seem to be getting iMessages and not regular Text messages. Even when I
have my iPhone right next to my Mac. I thought this was normal, but just
noticed my wife receiving a Text message on her Mac from a friend that hasn’t
got an iPhone. And she replied with the Mac as well. I tried texting the same
friend with my Mac and she never received it.
Thanks for any advice,
Petrus
