I simply run it from a terminal (it invokes a separate window) and use it with
my screen reader of choice. Since I mostly rely on the braille display while
editing, the fact that the speech output isn’t ideal doesn’t matter. I could
install Emacspeak if I wished - the same on the Mac, too.

The only thing is Nisus doesn’t make it possible to work and access tables.

Nope, they still used a patched version of screen. I do wish some one could get

No, I generally don't convert LaTeX to Word format. However, there are good
converters to HTML, which Microsoft Word can read. There's also a converter to
RTF. If you're careful in writing the LaTeX, Pandoc can actually convert to
MS-Word format directly.

Textedit can do most of that quite easily. However, you might also try the Mac

Just responding to another aspect of this, Microsoft Word for Mac now
identifies heading and paragraph styles correctly when you use the

Microsoft seem to have caught up.

You can also use Emacs, with Emacspeak, for writing. I’d recommend getting the
latest Emacs from Homebrew, though. If anyone needs further details, I can give
them.

Re: Word Processing on the mac

2018-04-04 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
It's worth noting that the user interface of Microsoft Word for Mac (which
seems to be quite accessible with VoiceOver) is different from that of the
Windows version. So, having used the Windows version before won't provide much
of an advantage in working with the Mac version.

I generally write in LaTeX or Markdown using a text editor, then convert the
document into whatever format I need. On the Mac, TextMate has proven to be
fairly accessible with VoiceOver. It was recently pointed out on another list
that TeXShop (specialized for writing LaTeX, and available by installing
MacTeX) works well with VoiceOver too.

if I had practical examples on how to practice some of these concepts, it would
help. Thanks,

Hello Brian,

You should have Pages already on your Mac and it does everything you need for
writing papers. I find it easier to use than MS Word but that may be because
I’m not used to using Word, not having been a Windows user.
In Pages, you can set up to 8 shortcuts for applying styles, be they character
or paragraph styles which can save a lot of time.

word processing on the mac

2011-05-27 Thread richard watson
Good morning listers,
I have recently purchased an imac. Thus far I have moved my email to
it, used it for my itunes to manage media, and browse the internet. I
will move my pc over to it using vmware fusion.
the question is this: what are the most accessible word processing
programs out there. I need some access to doing columns and tables.
Obviously I would like to move this part of my life to mac but wonder
if I've got to keep that part in my windows vm.
I serve a local church as their pastor and am doing bulletins and the like.
btw the church website if you are interested is
www.leisenringpresbyterianchurch.org.
thanks for any advice.
I have listen to Mike's mac podcasts on blindcooltech and would like
to hear feedback on my various options.

Hi Richard:
For word processing, the recommended apps are in the iWork suite, that includes
pages, numbers and keynote. The simplest app to work with is text edit. But,
I'm not sure how well it would handle columns or tables.

Finally, while you can't use MS Office for Mac, there is something called open
office that people are successfully using. I don't have much info about this
program either. But, you may find more info in the archives of Macvisionaries.

Re: word processing on the mac

2011-05-27 Thread carolyn Haas
Hi Richard:
Sadly, I haven't had to work with those a lot, and I've barely begun to make
friends with Pages. However, there are some tutorials, including Ricardo's
Apple to the core, series which I believe may address this. If you search
Macvisionaries archives, I'm almost certain there have been discussions about
it. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
