The first thing I'd do, is change the vo keys, control-option-to the
capsloc key.

jenny,
ok, thats an interesting set of posts in there.
I never had this problem either with the firewall on or off. I simply
transferred my old Skype info from an older 10.6.8 machine and then installed
it under 10.6.4 and then installed the application. Skype started up and worked
fine. the
you have to enable some of the other events in the configuration panel. you
have to add a growl notification to message (initial contact) otherwise it will
not speak the event. once that is done and enabled, each chat will be spoken.

Well, I am not sure about this.
Double tapping with two fingers near the top doesn't work for me, I may be
doing it wrong though, because I am not that familiar with the trackpad yet.
The skype problem is much more annoying though.
Thanks.

Eric,
Hmmm, interesting. Unfortunately, I personally do not have enough experience
with Skype in particular to be of much more use on the subject. However, it is
something I am interested in getting up and running soon. I will have to think
about trying an older version in the meantime.
Nektarios,
Make certain that trackpad commander is turned on. This can be accomplished in
VO utility or by pressing control-option while rotating two fingers on the
trackpad clockwise. rackpad commander can be disabled by pressing the vo keys
and rotating counter clockwise. If you're like
Well, Nektarios, you've come a long way in a short imte.

Thanks very much.
I was able to move the app to the applications folder and use the control+f8
functions.
I still have trouble connecting to skype though, no matter what I do.
Will see.

Hi Nektarios and all. First thing, welcome to the list, Nektarios! I hope you
find this list as helpful as I have so far. I am new to the mac too, only
having had mine less than a week now. Thankfully, I feel like I have made very
good progress, owing to some very useful podcasts, google
Thanks, Ray! I will have a look.

To present yet another way of skinning this cat, using trackpad commander time
and battery status are easily ascertainable by double tapping the top with two
fingers
and touching near the top on the right side of the trackpad. the clock is just
to the right of battery status.
Alternatively,
it will. I use it all the time and it works very very good!

App trap will nuke an app's associated preferences as well. It's actually a
preference pane. You run this file called AppTrap.prefPane, and it installs a
preference pane in System Preferences. Then you restart your computer to
activate the pref pane. To use App Trap, simply delete an app from

I have also been experiencing the same problem accessing Skype on my macbook

Hi Ray,
Where did you get growl? I recently discovered that the version that adium
offers to install is outdated. The newest version from growl.info fixes several
