Haha! Too late. After not really all that much deliberation I have
already chosen Runbox. They seem to know what they are doing by all
accounts, my mail is already on their servers. They have a nice import
feature that hoovered all my mail

As for moving emails, I've done it the simple way: in my email client
I've just dragged the emails from the account I had with one provider to
the account I have with the other provider.

Thanks, yes I'm definitely willing to pay for email hosting. I hadn't really
thought of a free IMAP host as a serious option. There's Gmail of course, but
I've only recently succeeded in extracting myself from Google's clutches. I'd
rather not go back there. I'll certainly take a look
