You can get the worldreg program. it will register the mrsid file and
generate the tab file for it automatically. piece of cake.

To my knowledge georeg will not register this. You can however register it
with a program like worldreg which uses the .tfw file. You can find that on
the directionsmag tools site and it is a free version. The only thing you
need to tell it is what projection to use (Since that is not a part

I have a quad 550MHZ machine, and I find that both mapinfo and vertical

Hello List.
I have two questions.
First, I have 33,000 polygons of building footprints which I use the
centroidx and centroidy function in mapinfo to get the lat/long values.
Problem is that mapinfo does not give enough decimal places for accuracy.
Anyone know a way around this or a way to
don't know about anyone else, but when I Print, there is a options button.
if you go into that then it lets you specify a scale for printing. I print
maps to scale all the time and I don't worry about the map window as long as
what I want to print is shown.

if you go to the usgs web site you can download all the topographic data
files. These dem files will load into mapinfo and give you the terrain
elevation. You can load the 3 arc second data straight into mapinfo 5.5,
if you want the better resolution 24k dem files you need to have vertical
I have found the same problem when I use my data with DRG's. I purchase 1m
resolution terrain data and find that the drg's are a few hundred feet to
the west and slightly north of where they should be. I assume that my data
is correct and that the drg files are off, but I don't know for
you could check the registry entries for MFWorks leftover files. Be careful
what you do in there though. go start, run programs, and type "regedit"

I use worldreg for my tfw registrations and have never had problems. You
might be able to open the tab files it makes with a text editor and see if
it puts the same information for each file you are using.

I read somewhere that mapinfo does not display true color, but that you
could go in the registry and turn it back on. (I think it was MRSid
document). Kinda sketchy answer, but it's all I got.

you could use the dos dir command to get a list and redirect it to a file.
ie:
dir *.* tempfile.txt
what the dir command would normally show on the screen is now put into the
tempfile.txt file.
you could then load the file in excell or something to trim out the extra
data/columns you don't

I get building footprints for my data-sets. But that is because I buy 1m
resolution terrain data with buildings. Sometimes you can get it from the
county's assessor's office. Problem is that sometimes it doesn't exist in
gis form, and prices can vary from cheap to costly.
