Use a 12V solar panel big enough to run the VDO Quartz clock from an MB instrument cluster. (W114 or newer.) No battery, clock runs when there's sunlight, doesn't when not. There's your data logger. Just remember to read it every 12 hours so you don't drop a stitch. You might need to mask off

I've found that the purple beans need to be picked when they're quite small, they get woody quick. This year I grew yellow beans, I can't remember the variety and one variety of green beans I also can't recall. The green beans are terrible for getting woody, probably made worse by the drought
