Just for grins, have you tried cycling the circuit breakers? There should be two 2-pole breakers (one for air handler and one for condenser). When I returned about noon one day my new Carrier heat pump was making a loud banging noise and was not producing heat. Cycling the breaker fixed it.

Sounds like the repair guts didn't really troubleshoot so the fix will take several return trips until they finally replace the right part(s). Often, the same capacitor (dual unit) supports the fan and compressor and capacitors do fail. Fan motor failure is not unusual after, maybe, 10 years

They said they were ordering a new one from Trane. Hopefully that is what happens. I’m still wondering if the fan quit working and it burned up the compressor. You would think they would habe checked that because it’s not like compressor kicks on then shuts off later if pressure gets too high.

The fan not coming on won't stop the compressor from coming on. If there's a high pressure switch, it'll hopefully stop the compressor from getting fried. Did it just happen? Seems like the tenants would have been throwing a fit if the AC didn't work when they were still there.
