Won’t start hot now. The lever on back is fully actuated whereas it wasn’t when
it was running. I probably need to bypass the automatic “convenience “ devices
and just do choke and throttle manually as g-d intended.

Remove the pull start cover and use a battery drill motor with a socket
drive and socket on the end of crank nut that will be accessed when you
pull the pull start cover. Then use the drill to crank the engine with the
plug out and grounded to the head so you can watch it.
Really quick you will see
I did some of that this afternoon. The tank filter looked ok and gas drained
out at a reasonable rate so I think it’s good.
I’ll get a new plug although it looked clean and good but I did not test it.
It’s hard to crank looking at the plug.
Thanks for the ideas

Did you install a new spark plug?
Good chance the old plug is gas fouled from trying to start it with dead
gas, which is why you do not have spark.
Another thing that happens with small engines that do not start with dead
gas is the cylinder becomes saturated with unburned gas which effectively

I believe one has to have some sort of special gift to be able to service small

Yeah it says stabilizer on the can...
I've had poor results with Sta-bil. The POR-15 people sell a stabilizer thats
good but expensive.

Any graduated container works for that.
Mix one part water with one part 'gasoline' and shake well.
Wait for it to settle, and if there's alcohol in there, you'll see the line

If you know a police officer personally he might have dipsticks to test for
ethanol. I would mix small quantities of gas and water, shake them up
thoroughly, let the mixture set and separate, suction off the gas with a
bulb, and test the water and another sample of gas with dipsticks since we

gasoline-powered vehicle fleet. Even that still wouldn't make much of a
"dent" in it.

Another thing to watch is for deterioration (mostly hardening and
shrinking) of rubber parts. This can make small engines very hart to
start when the rubber hose between the carb and cylinder gets loose,
for instance -- this has been a problem on both my Techumse and
