I don’t do VOIP, other than at work. It’s inherently unsecure depending on how
the traffic is being handled. If I can capture your VOIP packets I can listen
to your conversation.

Part of the work I do involves looking at traffic to see how secure it is.
There is readily available, open source packet capture software (Wireshark is
the most popular) that can be used to open up pretty much any protocol in a
data stream that isn’t encrypted. VOIP is easy to encrypt, and
I'd like to hear some thoughts about VOIP apps and accounts, tips and
tricks.
My wife's iPhone 4s is now running on Ting, and while she is at home with
WiFi (or out and about and connects to a WiFi signal) I'd like to set up
her phone with VOIP.

Yes, I'm quite tempted to ditch the Android OS that came loaded on my phone
and install a CyanogenMod OS, which offers more privacy by default.
Somehow I don't think that Apple devices are offering too much more in the
way of privacy.
