May put some Diesel purge through it. Then give it fresh filters.

I was able to improve shaking when idle by running diesel purge through the
injectors. Perhaps 2 cans.

I don't think so, but I haven't looked at mine to see.
The OM617 has a rack damper screw that is visible at the top rear of the pump
as a bolt with a lock nut on it.
The bolt has a spring on the end that presses against the fuel rack in the pump
to dampen oscillations in the rack at idle. When
My OM617 hits on all cylinders but shakes on idle. I seem to remember it can be
fixed by adjusting some sort of bolt and locknut on the back of the IP. Does
the OM603 have such a bolt?

I don't believe the OM603 has a rack damper, if it does, it's not problematic

Injectors and/or timing.
The engine shocks are important, but replacing them won't affect the shaking at
idle enough for you to notice. Be aware that the repair kits, only available
through Mercedes, are about $75/each.
I would save the $ and put it towards a set of rebuilt and tightly
More likely injectors or delivery valves.
