You are measuring junction voltage while conducting a dribble of current. The voltage drop across the junction is largely irrelevant, other than that the smaller it is the less energy is wasted as heat. This might matter in some kind of sensitive analog circuit, but this is a brute force

yeah, I had coils go out on M103 and M116 engines at least. the thing that makes me think it could be fuel is that he said the transmission was shifting late. that happens when the engine is starved for fuel. Take a plug along and see if it sparks while cranking. if yes, then crack the

In a diesel, those are classic symptoms of a plugged fuel filter/bad fuel. I am guessing the vergasser trans responds to the throttle position in ways similar to the Diesel Changing fuel filters on a vergasser is a nasty proposition. I'd rather change Diesel tank screens anytime.

I believe that Marshall used to say that any modern oil, synthetic or conventional, was a much better oil that what was available when the OM61x engines were designed. I don't see why that logic would not extend to Don's BMW, as long as the oil meets the spec that his engine calls for.
