how HEAVY the mirror assembly is...it looks like glue, but i can;t see

I've had several do the same thing and I'm convinced that it's adhesive
that's used to hold the mirror in the frams.

My guess is that it is urea foam, similar to the spray can foam
insulation. For some reason the catalyst comes alive and reactivates the
foaming reaction.

My '95 E300D (W124) has that yellow foamy stuff around the edge of the
interior mirror glass.
I figured the glass must have fell out sometime.
And a PO reglued it with propylene glue or whatever that expanding yellow
persistent glue is
