2" is normal width.
You can see the layers at the top edge of the fender.

I was wanting to be in it around $600. As it stand now with fees it’s hitting
the $900 mark. If I want it bad enough I may have to bid my $1k limit and see
what happens. At that I think it would be too much but the rare color and the
fact that my buddy owned it new makes in interesting.

Well it has a salvage title. In a case of it being a small world, a friend of
mine actually bought this car new in VA and then later moved here. Sold it to
the dealer here with 40k miles and now it turns up on copart. It is a really
rare color combo.

I have no idea what they were running in it but that is possible.

The head was pulled off because the PO evidently broke off a glow plug, but yes
the radiator is suspect. Will have to investigate further.

Well the bottom hose is not supposed to get hot, the radiator is supposed
to cool off the coolant, so maybe it will be warmish. Really hot or stays
cold would be problems.
Used radiator from a car that had the head off, hmmm, maybe a bad radiator
blew the headgasket or cracked the head on that
I need to check the bottom hose and see if it is hot after it gets
warmed up. Maybe nothing is flowing thru it although I did get water
flowing out of the top neck with the hose disconnected when filling in
the reservoir.

No, flow is out
No, flow is out from the top hose (from the head) into the top of the radiator,
then out from bottom of radiator into the thermostat and then water pump.

No, I did not turn on the heat before I started filling. The thermostat was
replaced a few months ago. Upper hose gets hot, have not checked lower hose. I
assume it flowed from the bottom up in the radiator?

Two questions:
1. Did you turn the cabin heat on before you started filling the system?
2. Did you try running it with a new thermostat?
Gerry...late comer to discussion.

Might be the clutch and/or this radiator. I took the radiator that was in the
back seat of that 80k mile e300 I picked up from copart that had the head
removed. I may need to pull it back out and just swap in a new one and clutch.

Bad fan clutch for starters. If you had a cracked head or blown head gasket
you would probably have oil in the reservoir by now.
Easy to test the visco clutch -- when it's hot, have someone shut the engine
off while you watch the fan. If it doesn't stop within a rotation or two, it's
out of
If the hose got soft, the head and gasket sound fine to me. You have other
problems.

No. In fact this morning it was under a slight vacuum as in the upper hose was
somewhat squeezed in. Not completely flat. When I pulled the cap it expanded.
Within about 20-30 minutes of shitting the car off just now hose is pliable
again.
It could have a fan clutch problem as well. Even at
I did, it is now. And no oil in coolant, no steam out the tail pipe either.
