I was visiting some friends last night at Pawleys Island and some other friends from Beaufort down the coast a ways were there. Interestingly most of these folks tend toward the bluer end of the spectrum but also have some sense. We got talking about the growth in our respective areas, and it seems that most of it is due to yankee carpetbagger infestations who leave their expensive sh**holes up north and come here with their bad ideas and habits. It has gotten really bad around me, I go to the store down the road and half of the plates are from up north and the people drive and act like total @$$h01e$. A lot of them moved here during the covids and just stayed. One guy from Beaufort asked "but why here, it's not like the places they came from" and I told him because it is kinda the last stop before Florida, and most of them can't stand the idea of living in a known white trash state (even though SC is pretty white trash in a lot of areas) so they settle here. Plus it is relatively cheap and warm to be doing outside stuff most of the year. He agreed with that. I also pointed out that SC was a good day's drive from Ohio, 10-12hr whereas Florida would require an overnighter then another day of driving. Hence gobacktoohio.com Most of them have no interest in learning the history, culture, people, land, or environment, they like to live in their gated artificial communities and play tennis and golf and bitch about the locals. When E85 was 20% cheaper than 87, which in turn was 25% cheaper than 93, I thought of running 50/50 E85/87 instead of 93. Knock resistance would be there, and MPG would be down maybe 15%, but cost would be down more than 15%. It depends on what sort of corrosive damage might result, and whether the needed enrichment would exceed the threshold for setting a check engine light. I see a similar thing in Flagstaff. Lots of people from the PRK, both short-timers and vacationers. They drive like sh*t, are generally dismissive to locals, and have no respect for the area or city. Case in point: When they come up (and this applies to Phoenicians, except for AZ Bob, of course) to ski at the Snowbowl or engage in “snow sports”. There are numerous venues for this in the area. But what many of them do is park on the side of state highways where there are steep slopes (and no shoulder) and do their sledding there. When they leave, it looks like a bomb went off. Trash, damaged sleds and other snow sports gear, discarded clothing, you name it. The County has to do extra roadside trash runs during this time of year because it’s so bad. Well we were in Branson this weekend and it’s just getting worse and worse these as far as these type of people. At one point I was sitting in the w210 in the Walmart parking lot and this punk ass in a big truck with Texas plates backs his truck in next to mine where his drivers side is on my passenger side. He had to be 5-6” from my car. He gets out just fine somehow but getting back in he of course opens his door on my car. He then just stares at me while I give him the “I’m about to get out of this car and beat your ass look”. No sorry, no nothing. I was getting ready to get out of the car and go around and slam my door into his nice new truck but he hauled ass out of there. Wtf? The whole weekend was filling with people like this, or people that absolutely could not drive. [MBZ] Diesel travel
Folks, I drove the isuzu rollback from tybee to the Alabama I-20 line then to above Huntsville AL where I grabbed some presses then back to Atlanta and over to Aiken, SC all on Thursday. I rested Friday in Aiken then dropped the stuff in Denmark SC and came home to Savannah … 1050 miles and about $500+ worth of diesel … I think my mileage is about 10 mpg and I was carrying 2500 or 3000 lbs for half the trip and also either carrying or towing the Aliner Alite 400 lb a frame trailer that the dog and I slept in .. [MBZ] Stripping paint off S550 front bumber
It’s ratty and needs to be repainted. The paint on it now seems pretty thick where it is peeling off. I need to get the rest of it off before repainting. I was thinking a paint stripper might not be a good idea on the plastic except maybe that citrus stuff but I’ve never used that. The solvent stuff would might be too harsh and might also eat the plastic? Heat gun maybe? The bumber is a sorta flexible plastic but pretty stiff and the paint seems kinda flexible so I wonder if that’s special paint not like regular body paint. There is stripper specifically for plastic parts, I know I’ve used it before but I can’t recall the name or manufacturer. I’m sure it’s something you could Google. Also be sure to use a paint for plastic parts or there’s a prep spray you can use before painting with regular paint.
