On an OM61x engine, the thermostat is actually a pair of valves.
When it operates, the bypass v"valve" closes and the radiator

Having just bought a new battery for our '95 E320, I was very frustrated
to come out to a dead car this morning. I had the charging system checked
when I bought the battery and it passed.
So, something is now draining the battery. All I need to do is find out
what! :-)
I have it on a 6 Amp charge
And we learn more easily by repetition, so an occasional reminder is good.

Correct. Bypassing the3 radiator when cool warms the engine faster - getting
it up to operating temp as soon as possble, also providing cabin heat faster
than most other cars, IMHO.

Me bad. I didn't up-grade. I stepped it up as far as feasible. Wires are
good for at least 30A @ 12V.
The cheap fan may draw way more than the OEM.
The circuit envelopes the A/C comp. clutch, KLIMA control, blower fan (?? --
Porcupine) and Aux.fan relay.

will be drained as well, during the process.
Behr radiators have a special set up for this, however if the radiator
is to be flushed I recommend hose removal.

Drilling holes in an MB thermostat won't do diddly. The thermostat works by
closing one coolant passage while opening another. For some strange reason I
don't completely understand the coolant won't flow through

A cheap battery will give cheap results.
About 2 years ago the battery in my Dell failed. I got an inexpensive
replacement (Dell wanted ~$150, the inexpensive replacement was about $80) the
replacement lasted about 9 months before it inexplicably failed completely.
Ended up buying a full price
Unless I miss something, I would open any orfice in the biest, including
T-stat housing, stick the garden hose in any end and flush.
BTW that's how I found the culprit not having heat. PO put a spark plug in
the line from the bypass to the heater core.

Whilst the block and radiator are draining, change the thermostat.
The M103 motor is a pain to change the coolant in, as it traps air up
the top and there is a special plug at the top of the head to let the
air out.

After reading my own post, I realized I failed to list the "fuel burn rate
at full load" for each generator I use. For emergency planning this is
likely as important a consideration as doing your "Watts used survey" to
select proper sizing.
