Re: [MBZ] Response from Trent -- Worldpac problems?

2013-06-12 Thread Hendrik and Fay
I have no evidence either way but stuff made in the EU has to be to a
standard.
Am trying to think of a case where this may be so, considering that a
lot of cost is in the actual development of the part, OK lets take Behr
radiators, the one I bought recently for my TE was made in South Africa,
now sure they may have a factory there to make second rate radiators and
have a factory in Germany that makes the good stuff for MB with MB logo
and part #
Or it could be that they only make that particular radiator in SA now, I
can' see the economic sense to have two lines making the same part.
Sure maybe the new Behrs are not as good as the old ones but only time
will tell but I do know it fits perfectly and works perfectly.
I have seen people post pictures of things like filters, which looked
identical except for the MB logo and of course the price for that logo
was a bit more.

Anyway I am having a good result with my ATE ceramic pads, lot cleaner.

Re: [MBZ] 190D brakes ARRGH!

2013-06-12 Thread Curt Raymond
You may be right, I hate to spend all the money on a master cylinder and not
need to...

I need to get some more fluid and try again. This time I'll buy a quart.

Curt,

I'll bet that you still have air in the line. Did you start the reverse
bleed at the longest line, then the next longest, etc?

Air acts as a "spring" since it can be compressed. If there is a section of
the brake line what has fluid before the "bubble" and after the bubble
[like from the master cylinder] that air will compress enough to "feel"
like you have brake pressure then when released, expand and push the fluid
back to the master... next peddle push, you start pushing fluid all over
again..

Suggest you take some fluid out of the master tank and pump from the bleed
screw again..
Or, if you have a spare electric fuel pump lying around... attach some barb
fittings and clear hose to it and let it do the work while you watch the
master tank for bubbles [you will see them as they are pushed up].

In any case, hope it sorts out for you.

Grant...

Re: [MBZ] 31 May order

2013-06-12 Thread Rusty Cullens
You would have to buy 2k a month, pay by credit card and then ship all the
parts. It really isn't feasible. The drop ship program requires even more b/s.
I can possibly set up an account but it be a PIA. I'll look at it tomorrow.

Everyone is so concerned with privacy anymore that you cannot find out
anything. She probably will say nothing unless instructed to do so.
However, you would think that if he was awake and coherent at all, he
would have had someone put a message on the phone and the website asking
customers to hang in there and let him get back on his feet.

Oh. If it is operated with an electric switch then it is not manual.
*smiles* By the way, the manual ones are not crank operated, but have
a "T" handle that is rotated to secures the sunroof panel in any
position as well as provide a handle to drag the sunroof panel forward
or back. I like it much better than the electric.

Hey! How’s it going? I’m all right.

My job is so shitty I wish I could overthrow my boss. It’s like this
oppressive regime where only true believers in his management
techniques will stay around. I work marathon-length hours and he’s
made all these changes that have made it the worst architecture firm
to work at in Manhattan. Like he moved the office to the Financial
District and fired my assistant. She was the only one who knew where
the blueprints were! I need access to those blueprints to complete my
job! F my life, right? And he keeps trying to start all these new
initiatives to boost revenue, but seriously we just need to stick to
what we do best. There’s only one true profit center. I seriously feel
ready to go on strike at any second.

I just read this article about how these free radical particles can
cause the downfall of good health and accelerate aging. These could
actually cause death to millions of Americans. If these particles are
flying around undetected everywhere, does that mean we’re all
radicalized?

Have you seen the second season of Breaking Bad? I just finished it. I
couldn’t believe that episode where they poison the guy with ricin!
That was the bomb! I won’t say any more because I don’t want to reveal
the earth-shattering events to come.

Oh! So I’ve been planning a big trip for the summer. I’m thinking of
visiting all of the most famous suspension bridges in the United
States. So probably like the Golden Gate Bridge, The Brooklyn Bridge,
and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. I’m gonna bring my younger brother
and I know he’ll want to go to bars, so I’m thinking of getting him a
fake drivers license, but I hope that doesn’t blow up in my face.

Okay, I gotta run! I’m late for flight school. I missed the last class

[MBZ] 31 May order

2013-06-12 Thread WILTON

In addition to the below msg this morning, following are my actions re.
Trent today:

0945 12 Jun left msg (answer machine) for Trent to call me.

1345 left msg with assistant, Peggy, "What is status of my 31 May order?"
Peggy took my ph #; said she'd FAX msg to Trent.

1407 12 Jun msg to buymbpa...@comcast.net

~1650 Msg to call left with answering service on Trent's usual # and on
815-564-3436

~1700 Printed msg sent to Trent via FAX

Seems the ladies we've been talking to are merely answering service; likely
no knowledge or involvement in the business. They merely send FAX msgs to
Trent that certain party called, etc.

Trent, has my 31 May order been placed? Has an invoice been generated?
'Asked these questions of Kitty yesterday. She said she'd ask you to call
me. 'Nothing, including info, yet received.

We've heard nothing from you for several days concerning possible
"problem" (delayed) orders - mine and at least one other okiebenz list
member. Probably the worst part of all of this is not being able to get
info from you. Please, do not shut us out. If there's a problem, we need
to hear it from you - early. When we don't hear anything from you, can't
reach you, etc., our human nature causes us to imagine the worst. Some of
us may be a bit "shell-shocked" and a bit "jumpy;" well, I am, anyway. I
(possibly others) have been too-severely "crapped upon" long before most
of the okiebenz list members were born to not be a bit "jumpy."

I sincerely hope that whatever problems there are can be resolved and
allow all of us to continue to do business with you, but we need to hear
from you.

If my concerns are premature, I offer my sincere apology.

However, you would think that if he was awake and coherent at all, he

2013-06-12 Thread Rusty Cullens

I am sorry Rich, it appears that my boy Trent can't handle the job he was
given. If it makes anyone feel better he won't return my calls either. I wish
him well he is a very nice guy with a great personality but may have bitten off
more than he can chew. I have tried to help him but he just won't talk to me.
Strange but true.

Yep, it's an open layout, roasting in back, cafe in front. Our retail manager

Metered parking on the street, the earlier the better to find spots in front,

My 240D is a '78. I'd appreciate the partnumber.
For now (since I need this car for next week) I got a piece of 44mm hose.
Actually I bought a pre-moulded radiator hose for something else and cut a
length out of it. It looks like it will fit.
I also found a substitution for the 90 degree heater hose I didn't get
from a certain online parts supplier, some 3/4" heater hose is fitting the
bill pretty well. Hard to install because the proper stuff is bigger at
one end than the other. It took a lot of time slowly stretching it into
place but its there and not kinked.

Once Angie gets home I'll go get a couple more hose clamps (I bought the
right ones for the too small hose but they won't fit the proper thing) and
I think I can button this one up. I hope...

However, when I do that it rattles.
Is this the nature of the beast or is there likely something in there
that needs attention?

Is that a manual sunroof? The manual sunroof has a rubber roller that
runs up a ramp to lock the roof open (I think). On one of mine (S123),
those rollers have lost their rubber so just the metal hub remains.
This makes it impossible to get the tensions adjustment right and so it
always rattles when open.

I don't know if the W115 is similar or not...

My notes show 900-271-042012 is the number for that hose.

My memory is that can only be purchased in 1 meter lengths. Rusty

That sort of depends.
A number of years ago I had Michelin tires on my Mercury.
They would not wear out but the rubber was so hard that I had no
traction in winter.
I was stuck on a flat parking lot one day as it was icy. Could not go
forward or backward. Either way it just spun the tire.
I had the cheapest no name tires I could find put on and had no more
troubles. No idea who made them but they sure were better than that set
of Michelin.

With the window feature you run the window all the way up and hold the button

It's in the W140 owners manual, so if this is the case there is likely

'75-'83 240D Thermostat to Water Pump Hose

Part #: 900271042012

hose (listing for over $100).

http://www.eurotruck-importers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=622

$6.15 + shipping
(supposedly a cut to fit piece of original Mercedes-Benz hose, not
aftermarket or OEM.)

No relation, affiliation ect. just passing on what I came across doing a
quick search.

So here is one problem with the order he asserts Worldpac to be at fault
for:

I need 2 alternator belts,

he says 004 997 39 32 x2

but then on the 2nd and 3rd submittal he has

004 997 39 32 x2 no stock
004 997 39 92 x2 no stock Revised Fairfield

Looking at
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/3338/MBZ_3338_ENGMIS_pg1.htm#item0

I see that their part number is

Belt - Alternator/Water Pump - 10 X 1035 (through engine # 039510)
Brand: Contitech (OEM Supplier)[More Info
]

Part Number: 004-997-39-92-M21 (2 per car, sold individually)

Belt - Alternator/Water Pump - 10 X 1035 (through engine # 039510)
Brand: Genuine Mercedes-Benz[More Info
]

Part Number: 004-997-39-92-MBZ (2 per car, sold individually)

It appears orders 1 and 2 had wrong number (32 not 92), 3 looks like
they don't have them anyway (he said Contitech)

Other numbers look OK but they say no stock on some of my stuff. Other
stuff has no note to that effect.

So, anyone have experience with PelicanParts?

Re: [MBZ] OT: Starving Youngsters: was 44 years OT

2013-06-12 Thread clay
Curt, Unless you happen to have resided on this continent prior to 1492, your
forefathers were risk takers. Maybe not much by choice if colored, but coming
here was not for the risk averse. With the growth of unions (Big risk for
those trying to organize) the risk averse were made comfortable. Pensions are
a thing of our fathers or grandfathers, but not great grandfathers. Until the
FDR fiasco, life was not for the weak. Surviving even through the depression
required stamina and a healthy undertaking of risk to remain above ground.
WWII required lots of comfort for risk to willingly dodge bullets. Moving off
the farm to work a factory job was massive risk, since you left all you knew
for a chance at a better future.

Then the baby boomers came of age. Lots of drugs, free love, fear of Vietnam,
coddled by mommy and daddy and expecting to not have to risk anything to get
ahead. Go to college, find a job, a spouse, house, cars, kids, and have it all
delivered to you with little effort. Snivel about nuclear energy, McD food,
not having gluten free, free range, organic, vegan, locavore tofurkey.

Sure, life has moved to a Nanny state, where we can pander to fear, avoid
risks, mandate insurance, tell parents they can not smoke in a car in Oregon if
there are children present, allow our elected leaders to spy on us, numb
ourselves with reality tv, while we avoid the realities of actually living. A
sheltered life is one of fear and risk aversion. Living by the vagaries of
nature involves risks. Being stupid enough to build a house that will not
withstand a tornado in OK, is foolhardy, but nobody wants to think about the
risk and actually deal with it.

Looks like that part No. is for certain W109 W110 W111 R113 W114 gas

What year is your 240D? I'll try to look up the correct part No. for

When I ordered new rubber brake lines for the 260E I had, I bought a
$10 Brake Bleeding Kit as well

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=xz2z3q55xchaxxbgw1xftfro&partnumber=19200LISLE

First time for me, but had no issues (thankfully) bleeding/flushing the
lines with new syn DOT 3/4 fluid, just by pumping the brake pedal (being
careful not to depress it fully) & keeping the reservoir filled.

IIRC I did go through 2-3 (small) bottles making sure all the old brake
fluid was flushed out.

If it were a damaged master cylinder (MC) seals, then it would not
_hold_ pressure. If pumping the pedal will build pressure, and the
pedal does not sink, then the master cylinder is likely okay.

Once there is pressure, does it feel "soft"? Soft pedal is a clear
indication of air in the lines.

When you "release and try again", is that with the car driving down the
road, or when sitting in the driveway? If the pedal is firm, but too
low, then also check for something pushing the pads too far from the
rotor surface. Drum brakes, which use a spring to return, a low pedal
or pumping is an indication of brake mis-adjustment. Since disk brakes
use the rotor movement rather than a spring for return, a warped rotor,
or one not seated flush on the hub will cause similar symptoms.

The Olds drove me nuts for a week. First I did the farthest wheel (the one I had
to replace a line on) until I quit seeing bubbles, then I did the rest. Pedal
still went to the floor. Tested it on a dirt road, one front brake would lock,
the other three couldn't skid in gravel. Bled all around again, no change.
Pretty much decided it was in the ABS unit or the master cylinder. Old style

Problem was in the back brake that had the busted line. I just didn't bleed it
enough the first two times.

I did some research and there is a "Anti-Pinching' feature that was probably disturbed and needs to be reset.

Can't say for sure about your sunroof, but the driver's seat in my 1999
(previous chassis) would only go forward when I bought the car. After a cramped
1000 mile drive home, I found out that the answer was to run it all the way
forward and keep pushing the button forward for 30 more seconds, then do the
same all the way back, which reset the seat computer's end of travel points.

Re: [MBZ] 2004 E320 4matic - Water on Front Passenger's Side after Heavy Rain-ADDED Sunroof Issue

2013-06-12 Thread Robert Koziak

During a recent storm I tracked the leak to the inside of a panel on the
passenger's side of the dash console. The panel is visible when you open up
the passenger's front door. As pointed out this still does not indicate if
the leak is coming from the windshield gasket, roof drains etc.

A friend worked on cleaning out the sunroof drains but in the process I now
have an issue with the sunroof. When pushing the button to close it about six
inches from being closed, it stops and reopens. I did some research and there
is a "Anti-Pinching' feature that was probably disturbed and needs to be reset.

Any thoughts of this...some say it has to be reset by a dealer.
Instructions or help is greatly appreciated!

Tomorrow severe storms in the northeast will help see if the sunroof drains
were the source.

Bob

[MBZ] Trent

2013-06-12 Thread Randy Bennell

Sort of a sad day for many I should think.
I have not needed all that much for my car but I basically counted on my
ability to order whatever it would need from Rusty and felt confident
that the price would be pretty fair and it would come quickly.
I had one little issue on an order that I can recall and he bent over
backwards to fix it.

A new era dawns.

Please keep us all posted if you get good service elsewhere so we can
establish a new relationship.

I'm thinking this old one is done.

No. sounds exactly like air in the line. try bleeding again.
Frustrating, and expensive, especially with silicon fluid.

Used Grant's method to bleed the rear brakes on my '84 190D today. I

I *think* yesterday's efforts to tag-team the bleeding (with Angie's

Re: [MBZ] 190D brakes ARRGH!

2013-06-12 Thread G Mann

Grant...
