When we bought our Ranger in '08 we tested a different one that was real base
model, 5spd manual, had no jump seats and all plastic floor. I was interested
in that one but it was more expensive than the XLT we ended up buying and the
jump seats did end up being handy a couple times.

I've had a couple Kia Souls for rentals that I've been reasonably impressed
with. Basically the same market as the xB and Cube. The Soul is comfortable,
reasonably quick and relatively economical to drive. Being a Kia they're pretty
cheap too.
