That's for sure. The (just finished) carport project involved 600
self-drilling screws. Possible with a drill but only with considerable
pressure. Stepson's Makita drill-driver was the cat's meow for these.

The small impact is wy better for driving screws than a drill, especially
for Phillips head.I use mine a lot for light mechanicing too. Especially
switching Dad's lawn tractor from mower to snowblower. It's got a spring assist
on the lift and dialing the tension on the spring takes forever with a wrench,
it's easy peasy with that little impact.

Re: [MBZ] Speaking of tires

2021-12-02 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Take it to a decent tire shop and have them look it over. If you have
tread separation and you describe classic symptoms of exactly that, it is a
very dangerous thing that can and will cause loss of control and a serious
wreck. Do not mess around with it..
If the tread comes off the tire it will also beat the living hell out of
the fender before you get to a stop, even if it doesn't wreck you.
I recently lost a front tire on the Ford King Cab F350, 9,000 lb truck
empty, due to tread separation, same symptoms you describe. The day before,
I had it on the freeway running 75 and it felt "not right"... so I went to
the far right lane and slowed down at 50 the not right feel went
away... I kept the speed down on the return trip [about 60 miles] and the
next day used the truck again.. At that time, I hit a bump and the front
started an oscillation that was truly frightening. I hit the brakes and
pulled the speed down to 20 before the front stopped driving itself. I got
the message milked it to the closest tire shop and at that point, I
could see a tread bubble about 2 ft long... [Big O tires 12,000 miles
since new, a dual truck, so 6 tires cost $2,200 when new] Put a set of
Michelin replacement tires on at the handy shop, and love them. Big O
refused to warranty their tire set that failed... no refund.. I ate it..
ouch. They are forever on my "never do business with them again."

Re: [MBZ] Speaking of tires

2021-12-02 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I found an article that had the name of the company called Turbo Tires or some
such that sells these lizetti tires. A link to some business website had their
phone number so I rang up the company and talked to a nice guy there. He said
they had not imported these tires for 7 years and there weren’t many out there.
Weird as these tires looked pretty new. I need to check the date codes on the
tires.

They now sell some tires made in Thailand called lexani. Cheep but he said they
were good. Whatever. Walmart seems to be their main outlet. That’s probably
where these tires came from.

I’ll have to work on this tire, probably have to get another one.

I guess you can buy the vinyl for maybe $500, the extra cost is in the
experience and tools to apply it without any gaps, wrinkles, or bubbles.

I think paint would be easier for a DIY than vinyl. I can barely put a sticker
on something without having a bubble.

That’s pretty spendy.

I was watching this show West Coast Customs on Netflix and they painted a car
with chrome paint. It was wild, some sort of chemical reaction with a silver
solution they then rinse off and bang it’s chrome. Then they spray a clear
coat over it that can be very lightly tinted gold or rose or other colors. It
actually looked really cool. No idea what that would cost, spendy I’m sure.

FB morons have trouble picking the right car. I think FB must give options as
to what to pick for the ad. Pretty sure that would be a CD unless it is a 230
or 280CE maybe. Ive seen an ad for one of those gassers recently (I can’t
remember the engine size, might have been 280), didn’t know such a thing was A
Thing but I guess why not.

If it doesn’t have rust that probably would be a good deal for a coupé, it
looks pretty nice in the limited pics.

Kinda curious what this actually is, ad says CE, but it also says diesel.Body
doesn't have much obvious rust, could be a good deal. I kind of like the
exterior color although the seats are gross...

No. It means that the insurance company paid off on a car rather than fix it.
Could be a wreck, and often is. Could be hail damage, paint keying...

Yup, sounds like a bad belt. I would swap it to the rear and see if the
noise/vibration follows. I’m guessing it will.

As I recall, the MLs use a weird tire size that’s not terribly common.

in the steering or suspension was loose causing this. I jacked it up the other
day and there was no play in the steering, all the suspension bits looked tight
and fine.

today I was driving with the window down and it seems like a flapping sound as
the tire rotates at that speed. Got me thinking maybe a belt is separating?
I’ve never had that happen so not sure of the symptoms. F Rt I’m what I can

The tires are “Lizetti” and were on the vehicle when I “acquired” it and looked

Unfortunately most grinder disks/cutting wheels/wire brushes are total crap.
I've been using Dewalt brand flappy sandpaper disks and they are by far the
best. I got a bunch on sale at Tractor Supply, now I wish I'd bought them all.
I tried to get more and HD has them for like $9 each. I think I paid $5 for 5.
I've got some wire brushes I bought at our local True Value that are okay but
I've had them a few years, replacements are probably crap...

When we were building the bridge a couple weeks ago my 1/4" impact driver was

everybody's driver would drive them but only mine would counter-sink them. Mine

It was actually more powerful than the 3/8" Dewalt driver somebody else had.

My 1/2" impact gun was also more powerful than any of the others we had out

where "because reasons" the most powerful 1/2" drive unit was cheaper than the

Re: [MBZ] OT mouse capital punishment

2021-12-02 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Our house up north has terrible mouse issues, it's got a million little holes
I need to fix, replacing the enclosed porch floor being job 1 next year.
For this year I put a package of "Grandpa Gus" anti-mouse stuff in there. Each
pouch is supposed to protect 50 square feet. The house got 9 pouches and I put
one in the garage on the Farmall Super M. Dang mice ate the seat cover this
year. Didn't bother it for 20 years and then this year they just gotta eat it...
The grooming machines get pieces of cloth soaked in peppermint oil. It doesn't
100% repel them but helps a ton. We used to have terrible trouble with mice,
now they're just an annoyance, a few poops here and there but no nests.

Today the refrigerator was making a noise so I pulled it out to investigate.
Seems like the condensor fan motor might have a bad bearing or at least a

then forgot about it.

Hanging out of the outlet box was the mouse. Must have climbed the refrigerator
power cord and stuck his head into the box, contacted the hot terminal, and
zappo. Didn't trip the breaker though, as the fridge is still running. Wasn't
sure of the shock risk so pulled the corpse out with electrician's pliers. I
then gave it the usual final rites (threw it into the woods).

Who knows how long it would have been hanging there if the fridge hadn't

2021-12-02 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
The small impact is wy better for driving screws than a drill, especially
for Phillips head.I use mine a lot for light mechanicing too. Especially
switching Dad's lawn tractor from mower to snowblower. It's got a spring assist
on the lift and dialing the tension on the spring takes forever with a wrench,
it's easy peasy with that little impact.

The little batteries work for some time with the drill and SawZall, but the

it’s running on the “Hi” setting.

I’ve never tried the impact, as I’ve not had any reason to. I’ll probably be
building a small set of stairs in the near future for (yard) access to the deck

[MBZ] OT mouse capital punishment

2021-12-02 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Living in the country I fight an endless battle against mice invading the
house. I am not sure where they get in but there must be an opening somewhere
that I haven't discovered. I heard one the other night and set some traps, but
caught nothing.

Today the refrigerator was making a noise so I pulled it out to investigate.
Seems like the condensor fan motor might have a bad bearing or at least a
vibration. A couple of years ago we painted the kitchen, and I had come up one
outlet cover short when it came to putting them all back on. So, I left the
cover off the outlet behind the fridge, intending to pick up a new one, but
then forgot about it.

Who knows how long it would have been hanging there if the fridge hadn't
started getting noisy.
