[MBZ] Local source for injector heat shields?

I am going to be taking the E300 down to Galveston next week and would 
like to balance and install my Monarch injector nozzles.  I appear to 
only have 3 injector heat shields on the shelf although I suspect I 
might have more somewhere.  Anybody know what a local source might be?  
Would flaps have these by chance?  I am sure the dealer might but that 
is over an hour away.

Do you have a scanner or STAR?  Put it on the car while you go through that 
routine and watch the transmission commanded and actual gears, shift points, 
trans temp, RPMs, speed, and whatever other real-time data you can see. You 
might be able to save a file that you can then go back and study. 

I’m guessing there is some temperature-dependent shifting the TCM is doing to 
warm the car up for emissions or something. Have you changed the WS setting to 
see if that makes a difference?  Or maybe you need some fresh fluid, if old 
maybe it just isn’t working right.

First gen (1991-1995) W140s suffered from the wiring harness issues and 
evaporator failures. 1996 and later were unaffected and have far better 
systems, such as the better transmission that Jaime mentioned, the later ACC 
system similar to what’s in the W210, and COPS, or coil on plug ignition 
instead of distributor type ignition. The second gen or facelift models were 
really the pinnacle of the W140 series and very, very reliable and trouble-free.

As I said, I had a 1997 S420 I got from little Tommy that went beyond 300k and 
from what my eldest (who drove it) tells me it’s still on the road with the 
friend he sold it to. It was a very reliable car. I bought it from Tommy in St. 
Louis and drove it home to Florida that day without hesitation.

car but the engine is solid, the rest of the car probably has all the usual 
annoyances of a 220 but it looks well
Maintained. Close to the same performance as the 600 but a bit less

The belt tensioner can rattle also, and is more likely in my experience.
The fuel line leak I had in a W115 car was where the metal line rubbed
against the chassis entering the engine compartment from below. Check the
whole length from the tank to the engine.

We had the 606 variable intake and 606 turbo in the W210.

runs fine now. Definitely a stream of bubbles in the inline filter so I will 
have to check the hoses by the tank. 

Unfortunately I’m now hearing a rattling noise up front by the engine. I’m of 
course worried that this could be the vacuum pump. Is that what a failing 
vacuum pump sounds like? Anything else I should be concerned about?

I love my W140, a 96 S420.  So much so that after selling it last year, I
bought it back!  The ride and comfort is on par with the modern S class.  I
find it to be quite easy to work on as well.  The complexity doesn't scare
me, as its nothing compared to modern cars, but is a lot if you're coming
from the W123 mindset.  I took it on a 2000 mile road trip in November and
got 23mpg.

Diesels were OM603 and only the early years... 300SD 92-3 and S350 94-5,
but all the same engine.  Not many good ones left, they all seem to be well
used at this point.  The peanut gallery will scare you about bent rods, but
at this point in the cars life most of them are fixed or not an issue.

For gas ones, the 96 later cars are more desirable.  722.6 5 speed trans is
a great improvement, better climate control, lots of smaller updates.

I say go for it, despite what Pierre says.

The caliper diameter has to suit the master cylinder and vacuum booster.

I have been running two different rear calipers on my wagon for 20 years
now. They recently got fried when the master cylinder failed, so we rebuilt
them. Unfortunately I failed to get the w126 master to suit my late w126
front brakes, so the pedal is a bit harder now than stock. But the rears
seem to work fine.

W140 series cars are often maligned by the MB community, but if you stick to 
the second generation or “facelift” models (1996-later) they’re quite robust 
and very reliable. I’ve owned a number of them and wouldn’t hesitate to own 
another as long as it fit the criteria above. Yes, they’re complex for their 
time, but they’re also fairly easy to work on and there’s a lot of really good 
information on the web in that regard.

I’ve had some with miles as low as 80k and as high as 300k, and all were a real 
pleasure to drive and maintain.

If you like driving as if you were sitting on your family room couch, the W140 
is the car. There’s really nothing like it.

[MBZ] E250 Bluetec CEL

[Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes]

CEL for a 2014 E250 Bluetec sedan I am might possibly purchase was
diagnosed as "reduction agent heater and reduction agent pump."  Anybody
know what these are for and how costly?

Why even bother?
If you are anything like me, you have WAY too many projects, and WAY too little 
time. And the time I do have seems to get frittered away on totally 
unproductive sh, stuff.

BTW, I am proud of you getting that new box for Christmas, and getting the lift 
up and working. Strong work and massive steps in the right direction.

seating so it looks really good.  The rear seating is all original.  Patina
